Failed inspection and did not meet permit requirements

For those of you who are looking for a concrete company, DO NOT CALL Thomas and Geneva Ratz 847 - 878 - 2986 or 630 - 885 - 2444 OR go to www.exccinc.com. Tom promised to do a great job because "no job too big or too small" and always ended with "God Bless" after every conversation. Our complaints are very easy. First, he did not get the required permit to start his excavation of our yard / driveway and sidewalk until after reminding him 4 times and after a phone call that if the inspector does not come over can he still pour the driveway without approval from the Village. Second, he not only DESTROYED our yard but could not dig down to 8 inches in depth for the driveway and sidewalk with a bobcat and 11 hours of time. Finally, one of his "crew" installed a brick mailbox for our house and we paid cash before the job was done (my stupid mistake and will never make again because a handshake is not worth what it is anymore) and the mailbox is: not square, the top cap is not square and you can see to the other side of it. I can't tell you how poorly this job was done but the worst part is that when I called, after our failed inspection, he said that he would come over and fix the problem and that everone fails inspections all the time. Also, that he said that since he wasn't there that he didn't stay with the crew all day...so implying that his crew was the reason for the poor work. He sent us a final invoice / bill and basically kept our $2700 deposit because of his costs and kept our money for the mailbox. If you have the oppurtunity, do not use this company located at P.O. Box 604, St. Charles IL. 60174. If you need more information about the job, I can tell you that I have filed complaints with the Village that we live in, Attorney General of Illinois, and the BBB. I cannot tell you how upset we are except that I hope that all the people who read this will not hire him in the future to avoid what happened to us.
