Terrible terrible business etiquette. Purchased a car from this dealer .We originally were interested in a car that we had seen a day earlier but was sold when we went the following day. He pointed us to a more expensive model which had about 100k miles on the odometer. Everything looked clean.The motor sounded great, we ran digagnostics test on it. It seemed fine to purchase. Once it came down to the paprerwork under the odomer reading it said exepmt. The owner informed us that the reason the odometer reading on the
paperwork read "exempt milage " was because per california law they
were not required to indicate the milage of the car if it was older than
10 years. We asked multiple times just to confirm this was the reason
behind it . We then attempted to insure the car. Our insurance rep cehcked the cars vin number and informed us the car had triple the amount of miles the
odometer read! Understandably frustrated,we contacted the seller
who then changed their story and stated that a mechanic "changed
something in that area" and odometer didn't represent the true miles on
the car. Why the heck didnt they tell us before we bought the car? and should it have read "unknown" instead of "exempt?" It is obvious they knew something was wrong with the
odometer and covered it up and to add insult to injury the asking price
was much higher than what the car is truly worth. They charged us $5,000 for a $2,000 car. Also skipped around the requests for the carfax and didn't specify the license plate number on the paperwork. They are definitely doing something illegal.They sold us this car under false and illegal pretenses. Coincidentally, all the cars on their lot have the same amount of miles our odometer does.
