University of Phoenix Useless degree, in debt, please help Internet
5th of Oct, 2011 by User321322
Hello everyone, I hope you've come here first to understand the huge scam University of Phoenix is impressing upon people. I don't need to go through all the details, but you can just google "University of Phoenix scam" and you'll find plenty of information. In short, this school is worthless. I started with the online program and began the classes for an MBA program (5 week classes). They weren't professional; they were easy A's and I learned very little (especially considering it was graduate school level). Also according to numerous references by employers, the degree "earned" at the University of Phoenix is virtually worthless. In fact, it's less than worthless: many employers will think less of you for having one. Don't waste your money here. First of all I would like to confess that I am humiliated. I have already graduated from my undergraduate studies and wanted to pursue my MBA. My family situation isn't great so I had to do an online program so I could care for my parents (who are elderly and sick)--that's why I chose UoP. The setup process was easy, they're BARELY CARED about my qualifications prior to entering the school. I never had to take a GRE, and I even began classes before they saw any proof of my undergraduate or high school certification. They really were just amped to get me enrolled and paid for. The reason I am humiliated is because I was too ignorant to do my research before I started. As I mentioned before, all I had to do was bring up on google a couple of articles about the corruption in UoP and I could have easily dodged that bullet. Please if any one reading this has had this similar experience I need your help. Here's my current situation: I started the course and took the government loans, and after maybe 4 weeks discovered all the issues about the school (while at the same time noticing how pointless the class instruction and assignments were). Around week 4 I called my counselor and told him I wanted out as well as went on the website and hit the "official withdrawal" button. Luckily I was able to get out before my loan could be processed and I won't have to pay that back...but here's the problem: they still want around $1400 for the 4 weeks I was in that first joke of a class. As I said, the loan didn't go through so I'm not dealing with the government here, but UoP still demands I pay the $1400. What do I do? I don't have any legal knowledge, and I certainly can't afford to pay a lawyer (although I believe I have some legal ground for a lawsuit). I don't have $1400 to pay them, especially since I don't have the loan. I considered refusing to pay the fee, but I think they would probably come after my credit score or something like that. Please help me, how do I avoid this fraud? I'm really at my wit's end here.
