UPS
UPS The UPS Store #4992 Stole Merchandise that the were suppose to be shipping New Rochelle, New York
4th of Aug, 2011 by User151373

On July 29, 2011, I went to this UPS location to purchase a shipping box, I was asked what it was for and I told them a microwave. The clerk's response was oh no, bring it in to me and I will pack and ship it. On August 1, 2011, I passed off my Kenmore microwave to the clerk; was charged $39.00 to ship it and was told that it would arrive at its destination by Thursday, August 4th. On the morning of August 4th, I get a call from the store saying that the apartment number provide was not a real apartment, which is untrue because when I dropped off the merchandise to be shipped they asked me if it is somewhere they have shipped before and I said yes, actually many times. At which they went in their system and printed out a label based on previously shipped details. I was then told that the driver left the box under the mailboxes. In a panic I asked why he would do that as the mailboxes are in the middle of an open parking area. His response was that it was the usual driver who is familiar with the location and the mailboxes are inside; which I told them that I am very familiar with the location and the mailbox are not enclosed, which is irrelevant since the party that I was shipping to was home at the time of the delivery. I was later told that "no it was a new driver and we have requested that on his lunch hour he return to retrieve the package". Of course that did not suffice, so I demanded immediate action. Told them that they would call me back, when I did not hear back I called again and was then told that they have submitted the request in the system to retrieve the package and there was nothing else they could do. No here is what is peculiar, when I try tracking the package using the tracking number I received when I left the package, the details only say "A UPS shipping label has been created. Once the shipment arrives at our facility, the tracking status--including the scheduled delivery date---will be updated. No scan or other shipment tracking detail are noted, i.e., when it left the store, how it trekked from New York to Jacksonville FL, nothing! This leads me to believe that my microwave never left their store. During various conversations with the store representatives, I received conflicting information all day Thursday. I asked them to contact the corporate office and their response was "we are an independent franchise" and the larger UPS has no bearing on them. Nonetheless, I did try getting the corporate UPS involved, on Thursday they told me that since it was still within the delivery day, that I should wait until the next day and call them and they would begin the claim process. Which I did, but when they contacted the store they were told that a claim had already be submitted, independent of the corporate tracking system. Corporate advised that I work with the store. I then call the store and was told that "it was our fault we lost your merchandise and a claim was submitted. I asked how that could be because no one asked me the cost. To that he asked how much was it, I told them that I purchased the unit from Sears and have the accurate cost of $175. His response was that since I did not take out insurance they are only obligate to pay me $100 (which does not take in account the $39.00 that I paid them to ship the package. I told him that the option to insure the package was never presented to me. His attitude was take it or leave it, say "I'm not going to go round and round with you about this that is what we will pay you, period!" To my disgusting, when I walk into a location that says UPS there is a certain trust factor that I was dealing with UPS as advertised. I am now finding that I am being victimized without any alternative and it seems like the franchise knows this, because all through this ordeal they have basically thumbed their noses at me distress. This should not be allowed to go on!
