VIP Rewards Gas Card Scam Internet
14th of May, 2011 by User776034
I was listening to the radio in my car when I heard a number to call to receive a free $300 gas card that would be used to track my consumer loyalty to gas companies. I called the number (shown above which was fro VIP Rewards) and spoke to an individual who said he was recording the phone call. I gave him my credit card information for a 1 time shipping fee in order to receive brochures and information as well as the gas card. He then stated he would need to read all of the disclosure agreements and if the call ended before I agreed to them all he would need to read them all a second time. I hung up during the reading of the disclosure agreements and still received a hold on my credit card a week later. As I did not agree to ANYTHING, they have illegally taken money from my account. It sickens me to think that some bastard is getting rich ripping people off and it is impossible to do anything about it. I would love to file a class action because I know others had to have been screwed by this as well. I can't imagine what could have happened had I agreed to all the disclosures as well.

The scam has spread to the 27410 zip code. I didn't give him a credit card number. When I asked about the terms and conditions the obviously mal-adapted dude said "You're over thinking this" I told him I felt like he was evading the questions I was asking and I wasn't going to give him my cc number. He said I was "just making things up in my head, " and I asked what he thought I was making up. He had no reply and I asked him if there was a website I could look this up on. He said "What will a website do for you?" I told him this seemed like a scam and he told me to research it, and I said "yes--I would love to, how can I do that?" He said, "I don't know just how you would research it."

What a JERK! I didn't give him my cc # but I did give him my address and name...I'll see if anything shitty happens. I called the police. What happened to you guys? Any stolen identities, etc? Thanks!

I got a call from VIP Rewards, a nice man told me about the gas rebate card and I asked if there were any strings attached. He told me no it was because of my loyalty to big department stores like Target or Walmart. Next I was passed on to a verification person who recorded the call and read me all the terms&conditions. I thought the $2-3 shipping all the brochures and rebate card was ok but I told them I had been misled right then and there. They tried to deny it. Then came the sales pitch for the fitness DvDs and finally a weight loss program which I refused. Finally the envelope arrives and I call to cancel any club I may have signed up for. I also called the DVD company and cancelled ay club there too. The gas rebate card I am reassured is good but it asks for credit card details on a small printed sheet addressed to a p.o. box in Canoga Park, CA. How can I find out if it is real??
