Wyndham Vacation Resorts Wyndham Vacation Resorts Glacier Caynon Wisconsin Dells, WI Time Share scam! Points, High Pressured Sales, Phoney Incentiv
4th of Jul, 2011 by User961407
My family and I decided to spend the 4th of July weekend at the Wilderness Resort in Wisconsin Dells. We love that resort. We had been looking to purchase property at that resort for about two years. When we checked into the hotel, and where walking past the 'concierge' desk, we were asked if we had been given a coupon book. Looking for savings, we stopped. The clerk looked through our 'welcome' book and noticed we didn't have one. In the process, he told us that he would be able to give us a $75 gift card and dinner to a nice restaurant nearby if we wanted to listen to a two hour presentation by Wyndham. He told us we could own a piece of the hotel! Being that we had wanted to purchase a condo at the Wilderness anyway, we told him that we were indeed interested. We asked him if he knew if any condo's were up for sale. He said that the Wilderness no longer sold any property and they only had Wyndham property available for sale. Interested we decided to attend the presentation anyway. Knowing we were 'good bait' for his presentation, he upped the ante. He gave us a 3 day 2 night getaway, a $50 gift certificate, and 140 tokens for our kids to the arcade. We were excited! We thought, "Great! We'll be able to listen to ownership opportunites, and get some great stuff in exchange" We were booked the following day (Sunday) to a 9:30 am presentation. Upon our arrival, we were met by an upbeat sales person. She sat and spoke to us for a good hour about nothing in general. We later attended another 45 minute sales presentation where they spoke to us about nothing but why Wyndham is such a good investment. Never once did they mention how many points you would really need to actually rent some of these properties. Keep in mind that most people travel during 'peak' season. At the end of these 'sales presentations' we were given a tour of the facility. Granted, these facilities are beautiful. At the end of the tour, we sat down to speak to the sales manager and the representative. My husband who is ever mindful of the 'little things' kept asking how many points do you need to actually vacation. Neither the manager of the rep would answer. They kept saying well how many days to you vacation. They would base our point needs on our answer. Well who can really answer so quickly, how many vacations does someone really need to take in one year? Interesting part of the story: Wyndham Resorts works in a point system. You will buy points to use for a whole year. These points can range anywhere between the minimum (who knows) to the points we were being sold (308,000) when my hubby asked well how many nights is that? (Manager) told my hubby well it ranges to between 10-14 nights. The 308,000 points were being sold to us for a whopping $66,000! When I reminded them that we were not going to purchase anything without thinking about it, the manager says to the sales rep, "You see what I mean about jumping around!" He was referring to me trying to switch from one topic to another and not committing to buying right then and there. He said this to the rep about 3 times. Each time trying another high pressure sales tactic. After gettting another definite no from us. He walked away angrily. I seriously felt like punching the guy in the face after he said well you probably don't spend enough time with your family. REALLY! Wyndham was not going to let us go without another shot at selling us something. Here is where the truth is shown!: The final 'Quality Check' person says to us, we can sell you 154,000 points for $2,485. They will only be available for (he pulls out the Wyndham book) 60 properties across the U.S. and other U.S. territories. My hubby takes the book from the guy and starts to leaf through it. We both had the 'WOW!' moment at the same time. The place where we would stay at, Wilderness Resort, would cost us 148,000 points during peak season! Now peak season is broken up on a number system. Each week is given a number. Week 1 would be the first week of January and so on. So the weeks that equate to the summer months are all 'peak' season. Basically April through September. So they are trying to sell me one weeks worth of vacation hotel stays for $2,485! Are you serious! You gotta be kidding me! Can you say scam! BOTTOM LINE: If you are still going to purchase a time share from Wyndam, understand that you are buying points, not property. Yes, you'll deed to an actually property, but even that property will cost you points to stay at. 308,000 points at the VIP level is not going to get you much. You'll be able to use it more if you travel during the off-peak season. If you are an off-season traveller, then this is the time-share to go for. Otherwise, 308,000 points will get you the most, one week during peak season. With some extra time (about three days) off-season. Each hotel stay is on average 15,000 to 20,000 points depending on where you stay. ARGH! On an end note: The supposed gift certificate for a three day two night vacation is unusable. The company has a long history of abusing their clients, taking their money and making it hard for the clients to use. When I checked the BBB of Florida where the company is registered, it already has over +200 compliants in one year!
