| I called Xlibris from a listing of publishers on line. They promised me a book within a few months. They kept sending me galley's (to edit for errors), and there were so many that the next galley had even more errors plus stories were run into other stores. It was apparant the printer eithr couldn't read English or knew how to print, like it was a practice type set each time. Finally I was told I had to pay $250. extra to correct 76 errors 4 galley's later. I told the representative I had another book. Do you think you could publish it without so many errors, so I paid another $429.00 (same price) and they would not begin publishing until I was paid in full. Now I had $858. 00 invested. I sent in a manuscript and the corrections department begin for the new book. This person had to have no education or experience in publishing. I spent 7 months trying to get it across to these correction people the spelling for the title pages , the title of the first book, many sentences were wrong, double paragraphing, etc. Finally I was referred to a woman, who I understand is in the Philippines. Again 4 galley's later, full of errors, and a book arrived with the main story missing from the contents page. We are now into (March 2010) 16 months, they have my money and I don't have either book. Vanessa told me to send the books I was complaining about errors(which she denied) to her in Indiana, that was 5 weeks ago and they are not there, the postoffice is searching, and on her email she replies "out of office" until: and names a full week from the day you write. The company is avoiding me, won't refund my money and won't send me the books I paid them to publish, with ot without errors. Ironically one of the books is on the web page of the bookstore of Xlibris. How can they sell something that is not theirs to sale, I demanded it to be removed to stop embarrassing me, that is not readable nor saleable, it is so full of errors. They made me out to be an illiterate. the second book, is in limbo somewhere. No one should asks them to publish a book and should be alerted to their limit of reading and understanding English or the professionalism of the pattern of the layout of a book. I sent manuscripts from my computer files, no errors, no double paragraphing, three different sizes of font, not paying attention to the layout, and printing a paragraph on one page and printing it again on the next page. REPEATED THE SAME PARAGRAPH.. One story I wrote had a title, a body and an ending. Someone, split it into three areas. part of it was in the story prior, one part was the actual story and 3rd part into the next story. I repeat they can ot read English nor have any comprehension of sentence structure. They make a fool out of your efforts for many years. Both books were bio's. One was my occupation bio and one was my life from 19 yrs old to 80 yrs old. I have nothing to show for 5 years of writing, my money is being kept by an unprofessional, dishonest company, and employee's who use ploy's to avoid you. I have received materials from Indiana, Penn, British Columbia and by telephone the Philippines. They need to be reported many unprofessional ethics they operate under, and hiring people who don't understand English, able to spell it, or the layout of a book. no comprehension in any area of a publisher. They are undoubtedly a scam, fined and closed down. |
