Your Magazine Source American Readers Choice Scam with Magazine Subscription - Lured me to try for $8.93, demanding now $59/mo for 60 months! Alpharet
12th of Nov, 2011 by User755342
I got a call from Your Magazine Source in beginning of September. Lady Named Marta ( ID 9981) nicely explained that I won a gift card for a $100 at a drawing . The card is redeemable at major stores, like Target. Along with it I need to pay 8.93 for processing and I will be receiving magazines that I can review and decide to either keep on receiving or cancel any time. I agreed to pay 8.93 and try their magazines. When (September, 7, 2011) I received a letter from Your Magazine Source listing the magazines and stating that "Your credit card will be billed $24.95 each month unless we hear from you otherwise" I called them right away and asked to cancel my subscription, the lady on the phone said that my subscription is cancelled but I will receive several magazines in the mail since they were already ordered. She also stated that I should still receive the $100 because it also was processed. In October I received several magazines thinking they were the ones that were already ordered as per my conversation earlier, but I was not concerned since I canceled my subscription and I did not receive the $100 gift card, which made me think that the company deleted my name from their database. But on November 12, 2011 I received call from American Readers Choice Company asking if I received the $100 gift card. I said that I did not and inquired why am I keep on getting magazines if I canceled my subscription back in September. The Supervisor named Wilson Johnson, ID 9534 (doubt the name is real) told me that 1. I am in the contract with his company for 60 months at a price $59.95 per month; 2. The contract cannot be canceled because his company already prepaid the magazines; 3. That he can help me out by shortening my contract to 20 months at a discounted price $ 42.95; 4. That my subscription was not cancelled back in September; 5. That if I refused to pay they will file a report with collection agency; Wilson Johnson could not explain why am I supposedly having contract with American Readers Choice, when the initial contact and letter stating a contract of $24.95 per month with a possibility to cancel at any time was from Your Magazine Source, nor could he can pinpoint the date I was presented with American Readers Choice contact terms (60 months at $59.95 a month). He said it was a verbal agreement, which was a lie, I had never agreed to such contact with above terms neither verbally nor in writing. Now I want to get out of this “contract” that Your Magazine Source and American Readers Choice inflicted upon me without my agreement and looking for help or useful suggestions.
