YourMaid
YourMaid Damaged home, refused to repair or reimburse. When called was accused of lying. Virginia Beach, Virginia
10th of May, 2011 by User236361
My wife and I just had our first child and in addition to the OCD-level of straightening up and cleaning we did in the weeks that led up to my daughter's birth, we also employed a cleaning service for the first time. The service we chose was YourMaid, for which my wife obtained a coupon from Groupon. Normally, the service was over $100, but we paid $50 with the coupon. Based on our daughter's due date, we intended to have the service performed the week before her birth. Our daughter had other plans though and was born 2 weeks early. As a result, I was taking a 2-week paternity leave from work when YourMaid came to our home. The three ladies that performed the service were kind, professional, and did a beautiful job with the cleaning. I was impressed enough to tip the ladies $40 (80% of cost for service). However, after they left, I realized that the door to the master bedroom had been severely damaged. The door was fitted with a door stop in the top hinge. One of the ladies apparently did not notice it and pushed the door all the way against the wall, punching a large hole in the top of the door and pulling the screws for the top hinge completely out, resulting in a door that hung from the bottom hinge and no longer closes. I wasn't all that upset, I realize that accidents happen and was willing to accept a partial payment for the damage to the door. While cost to replace the door is around $120, I told Ms. Caroline Sharp (owner) that I was willing to accept $40. I thought I was making every attempt to be reasonable and understanding of thier mistake. The response I received from the owner was that she "had dealt with many other clients who in the past had tried to take advantage of [her] by claiming damage that was not caused by YourMaid" and refused to pay for repairs, stating that they hadn't caused any damage. I explained that it was unfortunate that she had such dealings and had some customers that had lied to her, but that I wasn't one of them. I offered to have her visit our home to personally inspect the damage and she declined. I continued to push the issue with her and finally, she gave in, promising to send a check that amounted to partial payment for damage. Big surprise, the check never came. When I called a few weeks later to inquire, she simply said that she would mail it and hung up. Weeks later, again nothing. It's become clear to me that Ms. Sharp has a complete lack of business ethics, she repeatedly lied to me, accused me of lying and basically had no concern at all for damage caused by her company. Even though it is a small amount of money, I'm in the process of filing a lawsuit in an attempt to recover the entire cost to fix the damage, court costs, and lost wages... but mostly to make a point. You can't just treat paying customers like criminals when your business causes damage. Avoid at all costs!
