Zimmer and Kohl Contracting Worst Company in Existance! Louisville, Kentucky
20th of Dec, 2011 by User464849
CUSTOMER BEWARE....... I have numerous issues and complaints regarding this contracting company. I think the best way is to start from the beginning and end with my latest issue. First off, I should begin by saying I am not much of a complainer, in fact this is the first complaint I have ever taken the time to write against a person or company (although after reading this, you may not believe it). I signed my contract with the company June 6, 2011 and was told that my project would take approximately six weeks to finish, and would be kept updated throughout the process. I will point out that it is December now, the project took SIX months to finish! Numerous weeks came and went with absolutely no communication from the business as to what if any issues came about and why they did not start immediately as promised. I called Ben Oghman numerous times and was given an excuses and the run-around. After over 2 whole months (with zero communication from company), I called Ben again to find out what was going on and what the issue was. Ben finally had people come out to start the project. Initially it was agreed that the company would build a one-door garage that was 18 feet wide and expand the depth on the new addition. Ben Oghman changed the outcome to a two-door garage stating there was some issue with the support, and although dissatisfied, I agreed to the change. Then Ben had his crew start digging the new foundation which ended up being a one-door garage that was only 16 feet wide. I might add that this was done prior to asking for approval from me and even running it by me first. When I got home from work, I noticed that the area that was dug and had concrete poured was about half of the size that was agreed upon by Ben O. and James Morris. I called Ben, who informed me that he all of a sudden did not remember agreeing to the dimensions which we initially discussed and spouted out comments that it is not in the contract, even though he is the one who wrote the contract. After calling James Morris, they managed to work out whatever the discrepancy was, however I still was shorted 2 feet in width on the garage door from what was agreed upon and what was paid for. When I called James, upset with the progress, I explained that I was dissatisfied regarding the service, professionalism, communication, timeliness and work ethic of the company. James told me to call him personally with any future issues and not to talk to Ben. James admitted that his company has horrible customer service on more than one occasion. This will come into play later. The company tore down my existing wall and put up the wood supports and roof and it took them almost a whole entire month to shingle my roof which was exposed to the elements. The company removed a section of my fence to build the garage addition to the house, and then made it seem like they were doing me a favor by putting it back up since "it was not in the contract". The latest issue I have with them besides the unprofessionalism, extreme lack of communication (i'm talking non-existent), poor work ethic, untimeliness and disorganization (the project literally took six months which is 3 times longer than agreed upon), is that they did not put a ceiling on the roof and the garage is now completely exposed from the floor to the rafters and roof. I was told by Ben that "it was not part of the contract" and that they could do it but it would cost extra. This might not be a huge issue to most home-owners, however my house is almost 40 years old and by having a non-existent ceiling, my whole attic is open from the far bedroom all the way to the other side of the house which is the garage. So now, since it is winter time even though I started the project early summer, my furnace is running non-stop since all of the heat from my attic is seeping into my garage. My question now is, how the heck did my house possibly pass inspection and be built up to code? I called Oldham County Inspector office and was told that surprisingly, the company did have a permit, however a final inspection was never completed by the County. I wish I researched this company before I signed a contract and gave them my life savings for doing a bad job and causing me much stress and aggravation in my life. Obviously, I am not the first to complain about this company and the service that was provided, so I don't feel too bad. Do not hire this company, you will regret your decision, furthermore, their customer service is non-existant. Even complaining to the Better Business Bureau does not even phase them!
