Absolute Security Deceptive Sales Tactics Fredericksburg, Virginia
14th of Nov, 2011 by User306266
Absolute Security was working in partnership with ADT to support ADT's multi-media service push for $99.00. The salesperson pitched a $1200.00 security system for free if their sign was allowed to remain in the front yard for advertising purposes. Some of the key features promised were Code use notification, Internet system management, Fire protection, Burglar protection, and Medical Protection. The salesman required a $99.00 check at the time of the sale for "registering the alarm system with the local emergency services: $33.00 for police, $33.00 for Fire, and $33.00 for EMS. You know, just like taxes on cell phones." The system was installed two days later, well within the cancellation period. After it was installed, when I attempted to set-up my system for the Code Use (to know when my kids came/went) I learned my system wouldn't do that. When I tried to set up internet management, I learned it wouldn't do that either. After reading through the manuals, I learned that Fire protection required someone to manually activate the alarm panel with a specific code despite the system being capable of having a smoke detector added to the system. Medical protection worked in the same manner. I researched the equipment provided and learned I could purchase it all retail for less than $325.00 and that for $1200 I could have fully monitored every window, door, and room for entry and fire. I submitted my cancellation notice as required within the limited time. ADT acknowledged they received the cancellation notice and would refund the monitoring fees. They advised Absolute would refund the $99.00. To add insult to injury, the $99.00 fee was for installation. There is no registration fee with local emergency responders as the salesman stated. I am sorely disappointed with my experience. The hour and a half installation took over 3 hours for 4 wireless door switches, 1 wireless glass sensor, and the control panel. The installer was clearly hung over, and smelled of alcohol. The installer failed to clean up the sheetrock dust from the holes he made as well.
