Access Travel Network Appears to be a Rip-Off Orlando, Florida
14th of Feb, 2013 by User564193
I received a message on 2/12/13, from Janine regarding our RCI account. I assumed this call was
originating from RCI. I called her back the next day and she asked if we recently purchased a timeshare in Hawaii and I told her yes. She asked if we had been told about our extra vacation getaways and I said no. She told me that anyone who had purchased Wyndham property within the last two years received extra holiday getaway weeks they could purchase for $399.00. She said we had 12 weeks that were due to expire in April. Janine went on to say if we couldn't use the getaways, she could rent those out to corporate clients. All we had to do was pay $149.00 per week and Access Travel Network would be able to rent these weeks for $1400 per week and we would receive $1200 for each week rented. Janine then directed me to the RCI website to read about the extra give-a-way weeks. I was then transferred to Robin Anderson, at 1 888 751-5547, ext. 2004, and she went through all of the same information. She indicated she needed a block of 12 weeks for a client , so I agreed to turn over 12 extra vacation getaway weeks at $149.00 per week cost to me = $1788 and gave her my credit card number. I was told it usually takes 60-90 days to receive the cashiers check for payment, which again would be 12 weeks at $1200 per week = $14,400. I spoke with my brother-in-law asking if he had received a similar call, since he is also a Wyndham owner. He said yes and asked if it was Access that called. When I said yes, he said it was a scam, which he had found out on the internet. Fortunantely my credit card company did not allow the charge to go through. Robin called me back the same day and said the charge did not go through. She asked me if I had a Chase credit card and I said yes and she said they usually have problems with that card. She told me I needed to call the toll-free number on the back of my credit card and tell them I authorize the charge, which I did the next day. I'm suppose to call Robin back tomorrow and let her know I aIuthorized the charge. I repeatedly told Robin I had read about fraudulent reports involving this company and she told me it was a different company and she had been on the sites reading the fraudulent reports and to trust her because "I was in good hands". She was very convincing. After reading all of the reports on this company, and checking with RCI, I have decided not to go through with this “fraudulent deal”! I called my credit card company and spoke to the fraud department. The charge was still pending and the account was closed so no further charges could be applied and the Access Travel Network charge, posted as CTC, wouldl be taken care of. I had tried calling Robin this morning and was told she was away from her desk. I tried calling again and there was a recording stating they were not available at this time. I did received a return call from Robin a couple of hours later and she asked what she could do for me. I told her I wanted to cancel the deal. She asked if I could tell her why and I said the more I read and after speaking with RCI, I felt this was fraud. She said she would cancel the deal and that their company did good business. I asked if she would be contacting my credit card company to remove the charge, she said yes.
