American Boat Listings Andy Unsolicited call from unprofessional scammer Patchogue, New York
28th of Dec, 2011 by User208577
American Boat Listing On Saturday, December 17th, I received an unsolicited call from “Andy” at 631-410-4066. He said was with ABL American Boat listings and was responding to my request to sell my boat—I don’t remember reaching out to them specifically to sell my boat-at least not in recent months. He engaged me in conversation about what kind of boat I had and the condition it was in. (He could have gotten that information from previously listings.) I said “ a 2550 Chaparral in very good condition with a trailer”. He said he could get me more money than the asking price and he generally “turns a boat over like mine in 2 to 3 weeks”. OK, so now my instinct is on
high alert. He said ABL would do all the listings but when a buyer was found, we would be dealing directly with that buyer. All this for only $299.99 and
he’d send me a confirmation e-mail. Anyone can send a confirmation e-mail, I thought. I said I needed to talk this over with my spouse (who was “in a meeting
till about noon’) and would get back with him later. Well Andy called me back twice that I know of before I picked up the phone. I finally picked up the phone and said “I told you I would get back to you later this afternoon, and that I hadn’t talked to my husband who was “still in a meeting”. That afternoon, four to five more calls came from Andy’s number. Finally they stopped. So I called the number and left him a voice message. . .”Andy? I talked this over with my husband and we decided to pursue other avenues. Thanks for your offer, good luck with your endeavors and there’s not need to call back!” The next morning at 8 am the calls started comingback in. My husband answered the first call and just hung up. I was out of the house for a bit, and when I returned around 10 am, I got calls every 10 minutes, when I finally picked up. I said I had left him a message about pursuing other avenues. He wanted to know why I didn’t want to take him up on his offer, so I told him flat out, I went on line, and goggled ABL and all I saw was complaints and scams to this service. He rudely said, “Well you just keep your boat then!”—“Well, Andy, I think I will” and my money and my good intuition about ABL’s bogus services for only $299.99.
