Please DO NOT use Amscot for tax returns. I went to the Amscot here in Melbourne to try and take advantage of instant tax returns. I don't do this every year, but I'm a single mother who recently moved here to start work after being laid off for several months. It's hard getting started again and the money would have come in handy. Plus, I know that it costs to have taxes done that way, but I know that you're paying for a service that provided to people that choose it. I went yesterday and had taxes done. The man that did my taxes said that Amscot uses a bank, Royal Bank, for the overnight loans. He said there was a chance that the loan would be declined but said that it was usually people that owed the IRS money or had trouble with past returns. Since I didn't fall into that category, I didn't worry. He called me this morning to say that the loan for my return was declined. I've never had a problem before! I really think that it's a scam because he gave me a different excuse this morning about why the loan was declined. It was something about what was used as credits on my tax return. I didn't understand all of what he was saying. He gave me a number to call that is a recording only. I called it and there isn't even an option to talk to someone. And, I still have to pay a fee to open an account with the bank because even though the bank isn't giving me the loan, it still has to go through the bank. It really upsets me that I paid for them to do my taxes and all the fees, and I'm not going to have an instant refund. DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE RIPPED OFF!!! I'm trying to save you what I'm going through.
