Axia College
Axia College of the University of Phoenix University of Phoenix, UOP, Axia College Lied, Mislead, Misrepresentation, False information Internet
8th of Jan, 2011 by User134815
I enrolled in an Associates program at Axia in October 2010. In October 2010 I applied for financial aid and I began classes the second week of November. Before beginning classes the first thing I was lied to about was the workshops. My enrollment advisor told me that in order for me to begin my first courses I had to sign up for at least 1 workshop. I told her that I needed a day to think about which workshop I wanted to attend. I actually took this day to research as to whether or not the workshop was mandatory.

I found out that it was not mandatory and what I did was call her back to tell her about the information I discovered. Before beginning the conversation I advised her that the call was being recorded (by law I had to say this in order to use the conversation later) and then I went into my revelations. Once again she told me that the workshops were mandatory and at that point I quite simply told her that I was not going to take the workshop because it was not mandatory. Well with little effort she gave in and advised me that I can begin classes in Nov (without taking the workshop). After getting my start date I informed my enrollment counselor that I did not have a computer, nor the ability to go to a library because of my disability, but I informed her that I could rent a computer for a very limited time. I also explained to her that I could not afford to purchase a computer and I would have to rely on financial aid to buy one. I also told her that I would rely on financial aid to pay for my internet, printing paper, a printer, ink, and other school related expenses, but I understood that I would need to do my best to acquire these things while I waited for my aid. Knowing that it would be difficult for me to buy these items and pay for recurring expenses such as the internet I asked the time frame for the processing of my financial aid.

I was SPECIFICALLY TOLD that when I meet attendance in my first course my financial aid would be certified. I asked how long it would take before my financial aid would POST to my student account after it was certified and I was told it could take UP TO 90 days. Before I could say anything she cut me off and said But it never takes that long to process and your funds should post within 30 days. I asked her over and over to assure me of this because I already knew I would not be able to afford school related expenses longer than a month and a half and without hesitation she assured me. Well to make a long story short and a short story even shorter this was a lie, but also the truth at the same time.

It was a lie because I learned through contacting the Department of Education Student Loans that a University can request funds before a student begins class just as long as the student has been approved for aid. This means the school had the ability to post my funds within 30 days of a student enrolling. I also learned that schools are supposed to review each student's case and situation differently, although the school has pre-determined rules, which applies to all students, to determine if each student's aid requires adjusting, not bending. After attempting to get the school to release my aid within 30 days of me enrolling, and with no success I decided to wait, while continuing my studies. I received a letter from the Student Loan Center and from Axia advising me of my disbursement dates. Although the disbursement dates are supposed to be approximates, the dates are usually and almost always accurate; unless the student has failed to meet the guidelines. These guidelines, in which I will not detail one by one applies to absences, breaks in attendance, schedule changes etc., but I did not fall within any of these categories.

I had done everything I had supposed to, but my aid had yet to post to my account by the disbursement date. Now the disbursement date has come and gone and no one can explain why my aid has been delayed. I was told that my Pell would post a day or two after my loans, but to my surprise my Pell has already posted, but my loans haven't. All of the Pell was applied to my current courses so there is no refund due. Because no one could provide me with an accurate answer everyone has attempted to make up information as they go along. One department has no clue as to what the next is doing and if you think your counselors (finance, academic) have open and effective lines of communication you are dead wrong. In regards to my loans I have more information than my finance counselor as to why my aid has been delayed, but he has not even attempted to provide me with a more specific and accurate answer. To this date I am still waiting on my loans in which I were approved for months ago, but Axia is holding the money and using it as they please.

I have been told numerous other lies, regarding commencement, the syllabus, and the instructors, but I prefer to save these details for the class action lawsuit that will come about. I urge you to consider another school before choosing UOP because their practices are not ethical, legal, or moral. I have already contacted another school and will be starting soon, but I believe Axia should still be exposed for their practices. I also have information that this school has falsely advertised information and this will also be saved for the lawsuit. I know of an individual that has been accepted at UOP without having a high-school diploma, GED, and only has an 8thgrade education and she didn't have to take a placement test or anything to be accepted. This alone reveals the intentions and goal of the school. I am eagerly anticipating the day my lawyer contacts me to tell me that the class-action suit has been filed and I am sure this day will come sooner, rather than later.
