BearPath / Mystic
BearPath / Mystic Aussies Sandy Goldschmit Bad genetics, bad placements, intentional breeding of dogs with health issues Internet

I encountered the first of this breeder's dogs needing rescue through a local shelter in rurual GA in 2007. The dog had been turned into animal control by its owner along with its paperwork. At that time the kennel was named BearPath. The breeder acted outraged and railed on and on about how upset she was a dog she bred ended up in animal control; however, heard later from the other rescue volunteer handling the case that she tried to breed this dog when his hips tested poorly. Since that time, several BearPath dogs have been placed through various GA rescues. There was a case of one dog having luxating patellas in both knees, another dog dying of cancer at the age of 7 and various other orthopedic issues. Another rescue contact stated that the breeder requested to place some of her pups through the rescue group and when the rescuer said "no", the breeder threatened to have the pups euthanized simply because they were tri colored and she had no buyers for them. Recently I have come in contact with two recent buyers of her dogs born in 2010 both commented they were told their dogs would grow to be much bigger and both dogs were under 15lbs - which is a toy Aussie not a mini Aussie. One of the puppies had a terrible temperament and was so aggressive towards other dogs it had to be removed from the area. The other dog was very sweet - but obviously bred with something else to be so small. Both buyers commented they were told the dogs would be 30lbs - obviously they weren't. I work with someone who also purchased a dog from this kennel - that has had chronic eye problems and he was "not happy" with his experience or the conditions the animals were kept in. This kennel has changed names several times - probably as a result of bad press. Folks, do your research - don't buy animals sight unseen and don't go for Toy Aussies because you think they'll less expensive and easier to care for. You will pay tenfold in healthcare costs while also paying twice as much for your puppy from the breeder. Since becoming involved in rescue in 2005, I have encountered personally 4 dogs of this kennel requiring a rescue group's help. Obviously the breeder isn't willing to support the dogs she brings into the world when they require a rehome situation nor does the breeder care where the dogs are placed.
