Canada One RV Sold a Keystone (Sprinter) travel trailer that was not CSA approved in Canada from the factory located in USA Winnipeg, Manitoba
31st of Oct, 2011 by User376531
i have recently purchased a sprinter travel trailer 30 feet with total of 35 feet in lenght from canada one rv july 2011. we decided to go with the lenght because the great afore of 20 year free storage and who could resist the comfort of room in this unit. having to work on the day of picking the unit up, my wife and a good friend went to pick up the unit as the walk thru there was many unsatisfied questions unanswered. not being showed all functions and opperations like hot water heater, under sink siphon for winter plumping, as our friend made a comment "show and get this out of here". feeling rushed out and not happy about the walk thru, i had gone thru and made some phone call to inquire about the components as hot water heater on propane or electric, lighting on setting for sensor light. when i was to see the trailer out from the show room, i was instucted by my wife that she was told to tell me to bend the latch on the front storage compartments because they were hard to lock and unlock. when i inspected them, it wasn't the latch but the lock itself. as the lock was hard to turn without closing the door and after a couple of times have to lock and unlock, i broke a key. when back at the dealer about this, i spoke to the good salesman and we went to the service department and spoke to the lady behind the counter. when i mentioned to her about what had happened, she instructed me to buy a couple new ones for my trailer. my salesman told her that i just purchased this new trailer a week prior, the look and attitude from her was that i didn't know how to unlock a storage compartment. she then instucted me to bring the trailer in for them to have a look. ok, now let me see, towing a 35 foot unit on a beautiful summer to sit in there shop for storage locks.... it dont take rocket science to figure this out. the next thing is on the first trip out for camping all the screws that hold the screen door to the hinges fell out, good thing for a nice hardware store in grand marais. while unpacking items from the front right storage trim, i would get a light shock. this shock was more from a low voltage because the unit wasn't plugged into 120 volt yet. this was the only area this was happening. the next of issues happened in october when the switch shorted out or stuck for the power awning. my wife notified me the day she was leaving the camp ground that the power went out for the radio when they packed up. i had instructed for my wife to check the fuse panel, wow to my surpise they actually shower her where that was. she told me that the #6 fuse for the tv was blown. now correct me if i am wrong but a tv will not run on 12 volt wered under my warranty"ith a 15 amp fuse. so with my wife concerned about there being a fire started. i was going to be heading out there the next day for 3 days, but being concerned for the park area, i went out with my wife after i had gotten off work to see what was happening. after disconnecting the electrical plug, the fuse that was blown still had a red light on showing that there was a connection or wiring problem. i had disconnected every thing that was linked to that fuse, and checked what was not working to see what was off that wiring for the fuse.. checking the switches for the slides and lights heater pump and awning... the awning switch was stuck to the in position and had blown the fuse. after centering the switch i had replaced the fuse and as soon as i touched the awning switch the fuse blew. now knowing the the power awning motor had shorted out. i had phoned canada one and spoke to our salesman, he instructed me to get intouch with garry in the service department. i was patched thru and explained to garry what had happened and all the items prior and he had tguessed right away once i mentioned about that the fuse blows when i touch the switch for the awning. my questioned was "is this covered under my warranty". he said that there has been problems with these switches and "yes" it is covered under warranty. and suggested that when we bring it in for storage that all these items will be repaired as requested. my question to that was i would like all these repairs done before it is to be parked out in the yard for the free storage.. garry had mentioned that this would not be a problem and would contact me before it was taken out of the shop, so i can verify that all repairs are completed and not waiting for most of the spring as previus persons have. now for the real piss off, friday october 28/2011 i show up to bring my trailer in for the repairs and storage,, to find that the gates and doors are locked and the sign reads "there will be no storage and canada one is under recievership".. no what !! i bumped into our sales person and he apauligized. if that isn't bad enough, i go online to see what is the closes dealer for my trailer warranty. when i called this dealer, he asked for my csa sticker number near the door.. to find that my trailer has no csa sticker and that depending on what would need to be done it may cost me 1000. to 1500. dollars to have this done. he refused to do any warranty work on this trailer unless i paid for it to be csa aproved.. so being a little choked now, i phoned the manufactoring company in the usa, keystone.. i was then told that the trailer that i have was not build for canadian standards. the service person at keystone could figure how or why canada one would bring that trailer to canada. he then took a list of problems with the trailer and work that needed to be done and would check with his service manager about this.. so back to canada one rv, i had spoken to someone and was basicaly told from this warranty person lisa, that its not there problem anymore and i should have paid for it to be done.. am i missing something here? with a slap in the face and told that it is not her problem or there's.. hmmm can you say "lawyer or just don't buy from them". right they have there money so we can all go to ****. i will keep this updated

You are not the only one scammed by Canada ONE. I am reporting stolen property and fraud and encourage ANYONE who suspects this has happened to jump on board. Declaring bankruptcy as a way of covering up isn't acceptable.

Your full of shit...When you bring anything into Canada built in the USA..Canada Customs makes sure it's CSA approved before it is allowed to cross the border...Also is Keystone that stupid ...Sell to Canada One they do the customs docs.and fill out the bill of lading..Da Canada.

Non CSA units can come into Canada. Its not a customs issue. Its up to the dealer to bring the unit up to Canadian standards.

Your issues are not too bad. There will have to be a dealer taking care of Keystone warranties. When you call around ask for a Service Manager. Most counter staff in Manitoba are not trained right.

firstly you don't have to have a trailer CSA'd to bring into canada any dealership can and do purchase trailers not csa'd and once in canada you get a manitoba safety put on it, by a fire commissioner - if your at a dealership saying it will 1000 - 1500 for that then there's your scam! trailers under 30' cost 95 dollars over 30' is 300, also if you just purchased the trailer with the manitoba safety on it - your manufacturer warranty is there and valid regardless of canada one and there is a dealership in the city who picked up that line and can submit warranty claims.
and when you spoke to garry at the service desk he would of had no idea that this was coming, and would of done what he said, oct 21st was when everyone was terminated, so its at that point canada was shut down and as much of a shock to employees who lost their jobs as to those who have lost their storage. you want answers so do they! they not only lost their jobs, but didn't get their last paycheque. your in a bad situation just like them but its not the end of world.
you may not like the receivership (its not a bankruptcy case..yet) but defiantly wasn't a way out or done purposely to screw people..at least not to the employees - the owner of the business is another question - receivership happened coz too much money owing.
