Capital Moving
Capital Moving Inc Total con artists; total scam scarborough, Ontario
16th of Jul, 2011 by User206260
Wow do I feel like a fool! We used Capital Moving Inc to move our belongings from Calgary to Ottawa. They were to stay in storage for a few months, in Toronto, and we were quoted $200/mth for the storage. Things didnt work out for us in Ottawa, so we moved back to Calgary. Our belongings were still in Toronto, and we made arrangements to have them returned. We were told that we would need to pay for the trip back to Calgary up front, which was unusual, but we obliged. We asked for a ship-out date, and were told the 15th of April. by the 20th, we were phoning to find out where the truck was, and nobody could give an answer. We finally were told that the truck was in Calgary, and we should get a call that very day to arrange delivery. Well, we didn't. It turned out that our stuff was still in Toronto, because of mechanical problems. When our stuff finally arrived, 5 of our boxes were missing. Our dining chairs were in horrible condition, with one having a leg actually broken in half. In fact, all of our furniture was scratched horribly, lamps were shattered, my elliptical trainer had the cupholder and base completely broken off. My work bench had all four legs buckled. Never mind that the missing boxes had tools, kitchen appliances, and electronics in them. We took pictures of everything, sent in our claim in the time allowed (10 days, which is incredibly unfair, as another post states). I emailed the claims department 3 weeks later, to find out where our claim was at. There was a total of close to $6000 in lost and damaged items. We received a reply last week, offering us $500 for everything, minus a $300 deductible. Our extra insurance we purchased wasn't worth anything. We got the maximum amount allowed, but were told that our total would need to be divided by the boxes in our delivery. Equaled about $62/item. Most of our claim was denied b/c when the stuff was packed in the truck, everything was marked "scratched" or "damaged". (A-1 movers in Calgary had packed us up, even though we were assured by Capital Moving that they didn't contract out). I have just sent them an email stating we would not accept their offer; pictures were taken of the ripped and damaged packaging to prove that this was obviously done while in their possession. An the workbench? Gimme a break; how can they deny the claim of damage; seriously, the metal legs had all been buckled!! I suppose I will report to the BBB, but I would like to sue. I wonder if I have a case?
