Classmate.com Memory Lane ETC. Underhanded practices. Internet
9th of Apr, 2011 by User297226
Last year I located a phone number to Classmates.com. After discovering my private information all over the internet, I requested my name to be removed explaining that with my information and my children, it could cause undue harm by an ex spouse. The representative was rude and said it is public information and basically too bad. I also explained that although public knowledge it is my choice if it is to be publicised. The rep finally took my information off. So she said. It the information did not appear for a while, now it is all over the internet again and also by their side companies such as Memory Lane. Please . I do not give a darn about my former classmates. I do not want my information all over the net. How can I get the company to do what I ask in ALL of their databases?
I didn't give them permission to publish anything. I need a legal office that handles this type of issue or a government agency.

Your post is somewhat confusing when you state you requested your name be removed from Classmates. Did someone else create a Classmates.com account under your name? Joining Classmates is optional, and you can remove your account yourself. But if someone else created an account for you using your name and school/s, I would think you could explain that one easily enough to make sense to Classmates. Request a password re-set and see of you can take over/re-gain your account. I'm not sure beyond that what to do. Also, you decide what information you write about yourself on Classmates, and that can be deleted by yourself as well.

As far as being listed on the internet itself as 'public information', it is nearly impossible to remove yourself from those public listings. Information about 'everyone' is all over the internet. And one can pay to obtain even more info. Sadly, because of the internet it's near impossible to 'hide' from anyone. The internet is like a double-edged blade. Your 'ex-spouse' could most likely find you easily, with little effort. Incididentally, we don't have that luxury of being able to 'give permission' to post public information. The internet is simply bringing it right to our doors, where we once went to the public library and/or county courthouse to obtain said info. So it's not likely any legal office can help you...anyway, they suffer the same fate as you and the rest of us do!
