I thought doing a bachground check on my wifes carpool driver was a good idea considering that she and her workmates require the service after 11p.m. at night. I saw an online ad for confidential background reports. The site promised a search and report containing data from 1 million various data collection agencies. I thought "1 million? A little excessive; may more like a hundred. Still Ok with me". So I payed the 34.95 fee for the do all, end all super dooper deluxe account with unlimited search capapbilities for 5 years and proceeded to start my background check. Your prompted to supply basic info and within about 20 seconds the name comes up with generic info i.e. last know city lived in, age and an old phone number. You are then prompted to click on a option that says "more info". After clicking the only available option for more info, a window comes up with a price of 29.95 on it. It states that for a "COMPLETE BACK-GROUND" all you have to pay is the either the 29.95 or you can click on a 2.95 option which will bring up a window that states you get 4 DAYS FREE if you pay 19.95 each month. The 19.95 will be debited from your account automatically. WTF!!! To complain about the site you are then sent to a company called clickbank which to me seemed like a third party contract company that handles certain duties and reps for the govpolicerecords.org site. They promise a response within 48 hours. There response is a form letter that basically slaps you in the face for being dumb enough to expect whatever they promised the customer before signing up. They apologetically explain that ther info is gathered from sources like the DMV,Post office, Voter registration records and county and state consensus reports and that they are privy to only what those sources tell them. So much for the 1 million data gathering agencies. They probably meant each post office, dmv, voter station in the country!! Brin these thieves down!!
