De Vere Financial Consultants Scams its Employees too!!!

Not happy with cheating hundreds of expats out of their hard-earned retirement money by promising high-yielding bogus investments, De Vere is a world-class scammer of unsuspecting new financial consultant recruits. The recruits are treated to a glossy 'recruitment presentation' and encouraged to ignore all negative postings on the Internet about De Vere scams. Then they are promised the world if they come to work for De Vere:- 100K to 500K in more or less guaranteed fees
Freedom to work at any De Vere offices worldwide
Free training to qualify as Stockbrokers
De Vere-covered visas and 'assistance' with relocation. Sounds like a dream? Well, it is - a nightmare! Here is a reality check:- You will probably earn around 50k to 80K gross from which you will have to deduct:- a) 20% of your income for your secretary/ co-ordinator;
b) 50% of her accommodation will need to be covered by you;
c) You will need to pay ALL her travelling and relocation expenses (could be expensive, if she is not your wife!);
d) you will need to pay your share of office expenses and ALL costs of your office telephone bill;
e) you will need to cover ALL your relocation and visa processing costs - they will give you no help other than a letter saying that they have offered you a job as an independent;
f) to get to your De Vere office, expect to have at least 20k saved up - you will need it in your first two months;
g) be prepared to wait and wait for your commissions and be prepared for bulls**t after bulls**t why it is delayed!
h) be prepared for prospects cancelling appointments after reading up about De Vere scams on the Internet and be prepared for De vere to blame you for that (isn't life a b**ch?). It has notes on the standard offer letter you can expect from these scammers. De Vere is in for a name change for sure - why not "bE WARE!"

| I was offered a position with them a while back, but decided against it as the concept of paying for myself to be dumped in a foreign city, paying for everything myself, paying various cuts of commission to all and sundry overweighed the benefits - sorry, I mean the total lack of any benefits. There is plenty of negative stuff on the web about them, anyone who goes for it has to be desperate, but the sad thing is they'll be a whole lot more desperate soon... |

They are a complete scam - the employees cannot even tell you the basics about the company - they seem to have such a high turnover .
Taken from the experience of a potential client who was pestered so many times (by four different people in three months) to have a meeting, after having cancelled several times, he said he will get back when he has time. They wouldnt let loose, till he found a day and time for a replacemtn and in fact, in the end he got curious and went to see them . After all, the claim to be "the world's largest independent financial advisor" lol.
"we have been around for 18 years" - website says founded in 2002... nothing like well-informed staff ;)
"we have offices in 54 countries" - Website says over 40 countries
"we are a financial adviser" - "we don't give financial advice, we are a broker"
"we don't manage money, we give it to third parties" - website boasts 7 or 8 bn AuM
- How are you remunerated?
"Well, err when we do a good job for example for Deutsche or Morgan Stanley, who all work with us, we err, get thank you presents".
- So you get kickbacks.
"No, fees for doing a good job. (looking sheepish)"
- But the others are doing the job, you are giving the money to manage - so why pay you?
"We are brokers." "you don't pay us anything." Website says financial advisors.
- Where is your Headoffice?
"we moved back to the UK". (Not regulated in Switzerland - and would never get the approval of a proper regulator, only some SRO - which is not worth the paper its stamped on.)
- Can I have an annual report?
"we don't have an annual report."
"We are a private company - founded by billionaire Nigel J. Green. Only he has the figures."
- Who is he? How did he come into wealth?"He started as a financial advisor like me (looking sheepish again)" (thought they are brokers...)
- How come I have never heard of the group? Has there been a name change? Nobody has ever heard of the group. But if you are so big and have so many clients, so many offices and so much staff, more people must have heard about you.

- Can I have a brochure?
"We don't have any brochures - its all on the internet."
- Can I have your business card?
"I don't have any business cards right now" (we are at his offices and he has apparently been with the company two years).
Office is basically empty, nobody really sitting and working, just lots of people moving around, clean, apart from some employees standing around and eyeing any prey, ahem visitor. Desks are empty and unsused. Looks all like a set-up job, will probably break up their tents and move out again soon - and change names. Does not look like a proper working environment. Very unpleasant athmosphere, the moment you step in. All eyes are on you. Meeting room is just a completely unprivate glass-box, like an aquarium. All staff are watching you whilst you are in there...like they are starved for a success...you literally feel they re going to pounce on you...they are desperate and hungry.
They also create their own press releases...
They hire graduates, unskilled sales people, preferrably people who know nothing about finance...

If you have purchased a product through this company can I strongly urge you to check the advise you were given by them with the PRODUCT PROVIDER.
In particular please:
Check the Terms & Conditions: Get a FULL copy from the provider.
Check what fees you will be paying, how much they will be and over what period of time.
Check you have been given ALL the documentation provided by the product provider.
I didn’t and was misinformed and misled. I believe that the information and documentation from my product providers that I should have been given was deliberately withheld from me so that only verbal advise was available from their financial advisors. This I believe is because it is so easily disputed.
This has cost me dearly as the product they sold me is highly inappropriate to my needs and circumstances. This was despite me asking appropriate questions at the time which of course would have been answered in the literature that was withheld.
They pray on your naivety and trustworthiness and have no conscience or integrity.
Once they had my money I never heard from them again despite being told they would be in regular contact to manage my funds. I had to move the product to another financial advisor. This it turns out is because they predominantly sell products that pay them all commissions up front.
I have had no replies from several letters and emails to both the Hong Kong office or their HO in Switzerland.
Conversations just seem to lead to more time wasting and falsehoods.
Please be careful.

yes, they are still mis-selling investment products and claiming to be Independant investment advisors. If they were investment advisors they would not lock someones money up for 10years if they were thinking of starting a family for example...
There is just a total lack of knowledge and these people should be reported to the FSA/SFC |

I didn't get a business card either or any statements over this past year that I have been with them I invested roughly 3, 000 USD so far but something is definetly not right as I was told initially that it was like a savings account that I could start and stop, withdrawal funds from etc. but if you miss a premium all hell breaks loose and now since I have taken a break while I research them more (stopped my premiums for the past 2 months) they are saying that all of the money I have put in over the past year will be lost because that is their fees. Im told my initial period is 20 months as I have a 20 year plan and that I cant miss any premiums or withdrawal any of my funds until after 20 months. So the question i asked them was after 20 months how much can I withdrawal and is the initial period of 20 months equal to their fees?
no answer...
Any advice or is there anyone out there with a success story about these flashy fast talking guys? |

I was taken in by these people in Greece back in 2001. At that time they were called Britex. But with so much bad publicity surrounding the company they changed the name to De Vere in 2002.
I lost all my money.
Stay well clear.
They are now moving into the QROPS market. God only knows what a mess they will make there with unqualified salesmen advising people on there life savings. |
