Desserts By Gerard is not reliable! Two weeks in advance, I purchased two large cakes for Thanksgiving. The cakes were to be ready at 11:00 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning. I received a call about 30 minutes before pickup and was told that the cakes would not be ready on time and that I would have to pick them up at 5:00 p.m. I said that is impossible because I am hosting Thanksgiving at my house and dinner will be served at 2:00 p.m. See, the original plan was to pick up the cakes and get home and get ready for my guest. However, what ended up happening was at 2:00 p.m., I was standing in line at Desserts by Gerard waiting while they prepared the cakes. Although their cakes are beautiful, it was not worth the hassle, stress, and delays created for the Holiday. To make matters even worse, the Manager was really not interested that they had made a mistake and caused and inconvenience to me and my family. When I told her that I had dinner planned for 2:00 p.m., --she asked if I wanted to cancel the order. I had no choice but to wait for the dessert as this was the only dessert planned for our Holiday Dinner. And, while waiting on my cakes to be prepared, someone came in to pick up a Chocolate Fruit Cake that was previously ordered but to his dismay, he was told that they no longer make Chocolate Fruit Cakes and someone should have called him. I decided to wait a little while before posting this so that I could contact the Owner to express my dissatisfaction and that conversation was as bad. The Owner said "we do our best to make things come out as timely as we can". So, let me suggest that if you just need a pretty dessert, stop by--but if you need it for a special event, Desserts By Gerard is not reliable enough to accommodate requests. I suggest going to Crumbs in Washington, D.C.--not sure if their dessert is as pretty but it tastes better.
