Dianne and Connie's Birds parrot aviary Lancaster, Pennsylvania
7th of Jan, 2011 by User112846
Dianne and Connie's Birds is an aviary selling different species of Parrots including parrotlets, lineolated parakeets (linnies), green cheek conures and crimson bellied conures in the Lancaster, Pennsylvania area. The conditions in which this mother/daughter team raise their parrots are absolutely awpaulling and their parrots are not of the quality professed on their website. Dianne and Connie's Birds will never make the great pet they suggest on their site.

The house reeks of bird filth and is filled with clutter from floor to ceiling - very unprofessional and unsanitary. The parrots are kept in filthy cages much to cramped for the number of birds housed in them. To keep them quiet, she had towels over the cages so they were constantly in the dark although it was midday. I saw many parrots with open wounds and soars probably due to other territorial parrots no thanks to the overcrowding. Most showed clear signs of distress evident in their dull broken feathers, their scared behavior and their avoidance of her. Why this aviary was breeding more parrots when they had so many adult parrots still left unadopted is beyond me.

When Connie wanted to show me a parrot, she reached into the cage and chased it around while the poor bird tried to escape. Finally she grabbed it and thrust the young parrot into my hands but the poor thing was scared practically to death. My mistake believing I was getting the quality pet she promised via her website. In my shock I bought the poor parrot hoping to give it a better home. Paying premium prices competitive with other aviaries promising quality, hand-tamed parrots, that's what I expected.

However, they are certainly not hand-tamed and my parrot, now (thankfully) healthy, happy, clean and singing his sweet parrot song, will never be hand-tamed and still struggles with being approached though we have been working with him patiently for two years now. Though I love him, these birds should be adopted out and rehomed to willing families - not sold as hand-tamed, quality pets. Do not buy parrots from these people. I'm working on filing my report with humane society and SPCA of the central pennsylvania region. They should be shut down.

I have several birds from Connie and I have never had a problem with any of them. I also know several people who have Connie's birds and they are also very happy with them. I have never spoken with Dianne, but I cannot imagine any of the above is true based on my experiences. I was new to parrots when I first contacted Connie after she was recommend to me by another of Connie's customers. Connie has spent hours of not days on the phone helping me with questions. She has been more helpful than one could ever expect.

A happy customer of Dianne and Connie's Birds.

I have purchased several of Connie and Diane's Birds. Their birds are always beautiful and healthy. The birds are not scared, I can reach in and they will step up. Connie has spent time with me explaining what to expect with pairs I put together for breeding. She is generous with her time. And she always give me the best price she can. Sometimes, at little profit for herself. Her goal has always been a satisfied costumer.

In regards to her critics: I find it hard to accept such unflattering comments from someone who is unable to spell correctly and then he/she will not even sign their name. Does this seem wrong to anyone but me?

I too have several birds that came from Dianne and Connie and I have never once questioned anything because these birds came to me in beautiful condition and after settling in became wonderful pets. I know they take good care of the feathered friends entrusted to their care. But once those birds leave their care it's hard to say what happens then. Sometimes it's just not a good match. There can be a lot of reasons why a bird doesn't warm up to it's new owner and usually it has to do with the owner and aurroundings.
As far as the conditions of the home, well, I know that the owners of the home [s] require monthly inspections. Being a landlord myself I've seen filth and their home certainly isn't, and couldn't be, like that and still pass inspection. If this person had problems with the bird they purchased, or had concerns about they way the birds were kept, the right thing would have been to take it up with Diane and Connie before doing something that can't be undone.
I've known Connie to, on many occasions, go far beyond what a "typical breeder" would do to help someone find the pet they want. At times with no monetary reward for herself and even at a loss.
She's a good person who I met through my interest in birds and if I thought for a moment that the above post was remotely true, I would not continue to trust her as much as I do. I WILL continue to do business with her.

I am a ongoing customer for Dianne and Connie's Aviary and have bought a few birds from them within the last 2 years. Connie herself is an excellent and knowledgable breeder. She spends a ton of time with you going over the care of your bird and NEVER rushes you off the phone. I have seen the conditions of the birds and their cages and I have to say the above negative review is nothing but a lie! Their cages are NOT filthy nor are the birds cramed in cages. She does not cover her birds either so to say that she puts towels on the cages is an out and out lie. I cannot believe what I am reading! I am appalled to know someone would deliberately write such horrible lies about her!! When I picked my birds from her they were happy and healthy so I have no clue what this person is talking about. If your not happy with a bird whatsoever, Connie will replace it. She is very fair and her prices are excellent! I am so happy to read the nice positive comments above. Those are the comments you should believe. I will continue to do business with Connie in the future because she truly is a caring person who loves her birds.
