East Movers/Statewide Relocation
East Movers/Statewide Relocation Deceptive and Rude, Use any other company for your moving needs. Internet, Internet
4th of Aug, 2011 by User111793
When I decided to move from Chicago to Colorado, I decided to get quotes from moving companies. One of the first company's to call me back was East Movers. I spoke with a woman named Natalie, and she was very helpful. When discussing what was being moved, I mentioned the large items that would be difficult to move. She asked me how many boxes I'll have...Being a 6-7 weeks away from the move, I had no idea...I haven't packed yet. She asked how many bedroooms, I said it's a small one bedroom apartment. Natalie says, ok, that'll probably be about 1500lbs. This led me to believe, Ok...she must know. I then asked how long the drive takes and she said about three days. I was quoted $1245.00 for the move and thought, hey...that was simple enough. She then explained to me that I can put 20% down and then when my movers show up (set up for July 28th, 2011) I will owe half of the remaining balance, than half at drop off. July 27th comes and I receive a phone call from the moving company. They let me know that my movers will be at my apartment between the hours of 2pm and 5pm. Around noon, I received a call from the moving guys and they informed me that they were stuck in Indiana with a move and may be an hour late. I received another call around 4:45 to be told that they are going to be much later and asked if I can reschedule for the next day. I said, absolutely not, I have to leave for my flight at 6am. I was extremely nervous at this point. I made this reservation whell over a month ago, this shouldn't happen. He finally shows up at my apartment at 12:45 AM. When he enters my apartment, he doesnt introduce himself, he starts walking around my place with a form and starts writing things down. I let him know that a lot of the stuff he was seeing will not be going. I did have more than what was expected because I couldn't sell my items fast enough, so I figured Id take them along to sell after I move. He then says that it will be $3000. I of course panicked. I then said, well it's not necassary to take the extra items. So I boiled it down to my armoire, massage table and love seat, on top of the boxes. He said that i'm still over. I thought, well, no one has weighed or measured anything....how do we know if im over or under 1500lbs? It's now after 1am and he goes downstairs after bringing the price down to $2055 when I removed a few things. When he comes back up he was told from a police officer that it was illegal to move now and we can start at 7am. I reiterate that I have an early plane to catch......Im moving.....which is why I hired movers in the first place. He tells me he can be here at 7am Sharp. I thought about it, and figured...ok. If you promise you'll be here at 7am, i'll leave you my keys and I can jump in a cab to the airport. I asked him over and over again. "Are you Positive, you'll be here at 7 sharp?" Im sure it annoyed him to be asked the same question a few times, but Im a nervous person when I have to travel. I hate being late. He assured me he'd be here on time tomorrow. So it's July 29th...my move date. It's 6:30am and I'm ready. Im awaiting my movers to be here promptly at 7am, I toss them the keys and im on my way to make my flight. Time ticks by it's now 8am. I had called my boyfriend to see if he can reschedule my flight for later that afternoon. We were fortunate to find another flight after time and money spent to the airline. I would have to leave my place by 9:45 to be on time. My mover walks into my apartment with a statewide uniform on. This confused me, since I thought I was doing business with East Movers. It's after 8 and he sets paperwork down and the two gentlemen start moving my things which takes about and hour and a half. He fills in the forms, I sign my name and address and they leave, and I leave just after. I didin't really have the time to read through what was on it...a huge, obvious mistake on my part, but they were extremely late and I had a plane to catch. My only other option was to just leave everything behind. Im upset that they are still expecting $830 more when they drop off my things. I start to look over my originial contract and notice that it says they charge 83 cents per pound. Although I had a few more extra boxes than I wanted, I still couldn't fathom that my things weighed much more than 1500 pounds. I called East movers to ask them how much it ended up weighing. I was put on the phone with Barbi. As far as customer service goes.....this was by far the worst I've ever heard. She said that my truck wasn't weighed because I chose the flatrate. Funny....because why would by quote be based on weight then? The 1500 lbs Natalie said my one bedroom will probably weigh and also, I was never given a choice one way or another. Had the showed up ON TIME, I would have been able to think it all through. Barbi says that my stuff was quoted at 225 cubic feet and I doubled it. Now....I had taken lots of pictures, from a few different angles. I showed lots of people these photos and it baffles them that that would take up 500 cubic feet. I asked Barbi how did they know how many cubic feet it was? I didn't see them measure anything out. she said, "they're movers...they can just look at it and know. You wouldn't understand, you're not in the industry." As the conversation went on, which involved her twisting my words around, and me having to repeat everything I had said before, she snapped. Level 10 flip out. I've never had anyone, other than my parents when I was a teenager, yell at me like this. She was screaming!! Telling me how Im the worst customer and she's never had to deal with people like me before. For the record, I never yelled back. I did, however, have to speak loudly, because with all the missunderstandings on here end, I thought I just wasnt' talking loud enough. This screaming of Barbis' went on for a few minutes. I was in shock. When she sounded like to screamed herself out, I asked again. So how much cubic feet were my things, just so I know for myself. She said she doesn't have that information and she will call a driver and find out. She also said that someone else will be calling be back because she can't take me anymore. I said that is fine and I awaited a call back. Barbi call me back and apologizes for her unnecessary flip out and they way she spoke to me. At this point, an apology was pointless, she had shown her and the companys true colors. She said she spoke to the owner and he had agreed to look over my file and call me the next day, which would have been August 4th. No phone call. My boyfriend and I tried to call them back and there was no answer, we left a message and still haven't heard from them. It's now the 5th of August, days after they said my things should arrive and nothing. I see in the contract that it can take up to ten business days for my things. However, Natalie had told me in the begining that it would take a couple days. Meaning that my things should have been at my location by the 1st or 2nd of August. My boyfriend also had called East Movers to find out the delivery date, so that we can work around his movers, (his move went smoothly, by the way. He was quoted a price, had extra, the guys said no problem and moved his things without charging for stairs or whatever else East is trying to charge extra for. Paid the quoted price had it done in a matter of a couple hours and we were pleased.) East Movers told by boyfriend, that after his move is done, let them know and they'll come right over no problem. False! It's August 5th, my belongings are somewhere, who knows exactly, and now I have none of my work equipment and no clothes for interviews. Im stuck until my things show. I have no idea when my things will be delivered or if we'll ever hear back from the owner like I was told, but im sure they'll still want an extra $830. Extra money for the complete hideous customer service and deceptive advertising. Their voicemail praises their company and after my experience, which is still going, unfortunately, and after the other reviews i've read, it reads like a joke.

You have the right by law to have you items reweighed at delivery at no charge to you. You can go to movingscam.com for help. Also go to protectyourmov.gov and find your right and responsibilities that you are entitled to . You have rights when it comes to interstate moves. You have been scammed for sure.
