8th of May, 2011 by User133579
Faulty factory paint job on my 2007 Mercury Grand Marquis. The paint is peeling on the roof and both quarter panels at the roof line. Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, MI. and or Jarrett Gordon Ford in Winter Haven, FL. refuse to help me with this problem. The car was purchased at Jarrett Gordon Ford in Winter Haven, FL.

the best part of the paint peeling off is you dont have to use striper, you just blow it off with compressed air. i just refinished a merc g m this weekend and it took 45 minutes to remove 85% of the paint off the roof. it started as 2 quarter size spots above the front glass. . went right down to the green metal etch primer. as i blew the chips off the car, i blew too close to the roof/quarter mld and there went the quarter paint. lucky for pinstripes.color wasn't white its gold ash metallic. first ford ive seen with this "peeling to the primer " problem . i have a box of thin paint chips, i just need some dip and a beer :)

I purchased a 2007 Mercury Grand Marquis "program" car in early 2008. It had only a few miles on it. A few months ago, a small chip in the paint appeared on the roof of the car just above the windshield. That small chip has now grown to the size of a foot ball! The paint started bubbling underneath around the chip and coming off. Now, the same thing is happening on the hood. There are several chips of paint coming off and bubbling up underneath like the roof is doing. There are hundreds of small bubbles underneath the paint on the hood, roof and trunk that I did not notice until an auto insurance adjuster pointed it out to me. He told me I have a paint delamination problem. The car was not prepped properly at the factory before painting. I have taken the car to a Ford dealer in the area and they told me nothing could be done because the car was now out of warranty. They told me that they have had several police cars from this area in their body shop with the same issue. As I left their facility, I noticed a police car parked right beside my Grand Marquis that had the paint missing in the same area of the roof as mine. If this is a wide spread problem, why has Ford Motor Company not issued a recall for this?? My car looks like trash now and I am embarrassed to drive it anywhere!!!

We are having the same problem on the roof back right door. Would certainly be willing to join a class action suit.

The paint is peeling off the hood of my 2007 mercury grand marquis. I noticed a small bubble months ago. Recently a spot the size of a cantelope peeled off the hood where the small paint bubble was while I was rinsing the car with a low pressure garden hose.

Consumers have been successfully winning around the country in small claims court on the issues with Ford's paint. The last 2 victories were in California and Massachusetts. The consumers won $4600 and $5500 respectively for repaints. Check out the various Ford/Mecury Paint Peeling facebook site for details.

I have a paint problem on my Grand Marquis (2008). Not long ago, I noticed a small dot of paint coming off the front end by the bumper. There had been no damage, and I couldn't figure it out. Now, the paint is coming off, big time.
I drove to my Lincoln Mercury Dealer and found it had gone out of business in January. I had no idea about this. I have done business with this dealer for about 18 years.

I am not sure what to do about this paint problem. It must be flawed paint...inferior...It just keeps disappearing down to the metal.

i own a 2007 grand marquis and i am having the same problem with the the paint peeling and chipping on the hood and the roof of my car. i have also noticed the same problem on other grand marquis in my area. i think ford should be liable for this because its obviously a flaw on their part.

I own a 2008 Grand Marquis - paint had been peeling on bumper. Yesterday I noticed it peeling on the hood of the car in several places. Shouldn't be happening this soon.

To Floridianstan - there was some sort of settlement and/or recall on Ford products in the early 2000's and thru 2004 regarding paint issues. You should have some relief - you just need to get with the right person. I would contact Ford.

For the rest of us, it appears we need to get Ford to acknowledge that those of us with later model cars have paint issues as well.

I have a 2008 Grand Marquis with paint flaking off.

I also have a 2007 Grand Marquis with paint peeling in 3 places. Took it to the Ford dealer where I bought it and they said the warranty was gone and it would be me who would have to have it painted. Under 50, 000 miles on it. I took it to a body shop and they said it was paint delamination. I'm very disgusted to have a new car with paint peeling.

Well, let me join the band. My Grand Marquis, Mercury - 2007 is peeling paint in 3 or 4 places (hood, roof, and trunk). Took it to Planet Ford in Houston. The dealer said it looked like a factory default. They referred me to their body shop. The people at the body shop agreed with the people at the dealership. The Body Shop Manager at Planet Ford in Houston was to contact me about the problem but never did. So now what do I do? Small Claims Court may be the right solution. When possible, I will try that and post the outcome for others to either follow suit or go a different route. I had less than 50, 000 miles on my car but it was already out of warranty. Wish I had never, ever bought this car. It has been slowly deteriorating from the moment I drove it off the lot brand spanking new. If this is the quality of Mercury vehicles, it is just as well that they will not be made any more. Good riddance.

This is our third Mercury Grand Marquis, and the only one that has had a paint problem. A worker at the Ford shop said that police cars had had the same problem, but that they were recalled, that was nice for them. The peeling is so pronounced that the paint flies off the car while I am driving down the road. One day there was a piece that had not flown off yet, so I put it in my pocket, it disintegrated. A good proportion on of my hood is down to the bare metal. The trunk has a sizable bare spot on it and the roof is staring to peel, too. The only bright side to this problem after I have shown it to the dealership where I purchased this car did not seem interested in helping out with the problem, who would want to steal this car the way it looks? No response from the dealership and or the Ford Motor Company will make me look long and heard before I purchase another Ford product. I have spoken numerous times to the dealership servicemen and they just look at me and are no help what so ever.
