I am writing this so that maybe my experince will keep others from having to endure what my family and I have had to at the hands of slumlords. I live in this park, and I hated it from the moment I moved in. The mobile homes are in deplorable conditions, the windows are broke, only some of the heaters in the houses work. There is mold, mildew in the window sills. The toilets constantly break down. I can look through the drain of my bathtub and see the ground underneath. Several outlets don't work anymore, and almost caught on fire when they went out. I have had several people come to me that live in the park come and tell me, that they have heard my spouse is a pill popping, drug addict. My spouse is disabled, he has several severe illnesses, and will never get better only worse. I have heard that the landlord has told people moving in, that everyone except her and her family are worthless and trash. The landlord herself has stood in my house and on my front porch, screaming obsenities and putting down my husband and me and our children. We have suffered racial harrassment from neighbors, the landlords family, using racial terms like "wetback", neighbors have threatened to cause harm to my children, one of whom is developmentally disabled. They have threatened bodily harm to my husband, myself. People have made threats against my vehicles, my house was threatened to be burned down. I have had to call local law enforcement to get some kind of help, cause the landlords don't want to be involved. My tires on one of my vehicles have been cut, and that cost comes out of my pocket. The people that have harrassed me and my family I have filed complaints against, and yesturday my family was served with eviction papers. I am mad as h**l, and I am going to fight this all the way. I don't have money to move, but I will not idlely stand by and allow people to harrass me, my husband, my children. And for the landlords to be a part of it, and to turn their backs on me, when my family is suffering enough, is outrageous. Do what you want to me, but grown adults should not be harrassing children, or a disabled man trying to take care of his family, regardless of the color of his skin. The ironic part, is my husband isn't Mexican, hispanic, or latino, and neither am I. This landlord shouldn't even have this kind of job if she can't handle her tenants and the harrassment they inflict on others, and they shouldn't be in charge of these trailers if they can't make the simplest of repairs. I hope that by reading my story you won't live her or allow anyone you care about to live here. ever. |
