I recently attended a seminar hosted by Dan Vega and the Bluestar Business Institute. The reason I came is that I had seen an ad where a company was looking for speakers who would be paid several thousand dollars per speaking engagement. According to someone on the phone from the company, she told me that I could expect to speak several times a year for thousands of dollars. She invited me to a seminar that Mr Vega was hosting. When I arrived, I discovered that there were about 100 other want to be speakers. The seminar started in the morning, and lasted most of the day until around 5:30pm with several speakers, mostly hearing from Mr Vega. What he was talking about seemed like a bunch of jibberish and BS. It had NOTHING to do with any public speaking opportunities and really had little to no value for anyone in the room, as everyone in attendance had come to learn about an opportunity. At the end of the day, around 5:30pm, Dan pitched a program that he was selling asking for $6000 and how at this price, it was a no brainer and a steal. He proceeded to tell everyone it was not about the money, as he did not need any money since he had already made millions. Nobody seemed to really know exactly what they were going to get for $6000. Kind of funny. After the pitch, Dan told people who were interested in public speaking to stick around and hear about that opportunity. Well, that was about 90% of the people, although some had to leave who had kids and other commitments, as they had already spent their day from 8 to 5:30 and got noting about any opportunity to speak. I decided to hear Dan talk about speaking opportunities. That too was equally disappointing, as he then proceeded to pitch to people the opportunity to buy a Bluestar Franchise, whatever that was. This was according to Dan, "a great deal at only $5000" because this franchise would make you millions. Of course, if you don't want to really be a business person and invest in the best business opportunity out there, you could just speak several times a year at these franchises and still make $5-10k per month, but this was the not a very attractive alternative according to Dan. Funny thing was that after about 1.5-2 hours, the time now being around 7-7:30pm, there still was NO concrete plan or next step defined as to how someone could make thousands of dollars speaking. The crowd was just told to send in a video, which I did. The only thing I got back from Dan or his organization was a call to meet Dan personally and have some time with him. I declined. I am sure it was nothing other than a pitch to attend his "Elite Millionaire School" or buy a franchise, what ever that was. I am not the smartest person in the world, but it was very obvious from about 1-2 hours into the program that there was NO public speaking opportunity like was pitched and that the entire day was just a big infomercial for Dan to pitch programs for thousands of dollars that would make you a multi millionaire. My humble advice. Don't waste your time and certainly not your money. Instead, get a good book on sales or starting a business, draft up a plan of action and begin marketing yourself the way most businesses do-one phone call, networking event, email, blog post, etc at a time. Dan Vega and BSB Institute are nothing like they claim. Do your homework, measure twice and be careful. Trust me, I have seen this in action! |
