ITT Tech
ITT Tech. et al Ruined my one chance at an education out of sheer ineptitude,or just plain con artistry Cincinnati, Ohio
16th of Dec, 2010 by User711896
As it becomes Christmas time again I once again reflect on the lack of an education, and/or career in my life. The inability to care for my children in a manner that is simply average, not lavish. Also, the money (1,000's of USD), that I still cannot pay off because of ITT Tech.
A few years ago, I enrolled in ITT Tech for an education in the IT field. After about one month of classes (less than 36 actual hours), my mother who was suffering from Senile Dementia had taken a turn for the worse. She was living with me at the time, I was working part time and going to school part time. I had no other family to help me, so, with no other recourse I asked first one of my "professors", then my case worker, then the financial officer, then the "Assistant Dean" of the school if it would be possible to take a maximum of 30 days emergency leave so I could make arrangements for the care of my mother. The answer was a resounding "Yes, of course. No problem. Just tell us when you will be coming back and give us a couple of days to arrange a smooth transition for you to continue your classes."
I was so relieved. Every time I walked out the door for school or work I was terrified of what I might find when I came home. The stress was intolerable.
After I made arrangements for my mother (who's recent passing is the main reason I write this now instead of at the time...I'm not a litigious person), I called and arrangements were made for me to come back to school on a specific date. I did so.
My first day back, about 20 minutes into my first class, I was called into the financial office. The Financial Officer, John ???(I can't remember his last name now), told me that I could no longer attend classes at their "Institution". I asked why? He proceed to explain to me that when a person takes a leave of absence from school, that the school sends your loans and grants back to whence they came. I asked him why out of all the people (even the assistant dean of the school) that I talked to, no one made any effort whatsoever to tell me this prior to my taking this leave of absence. He said it was standard procedure and he simply assumed I knew. He said that I could get the loans back but I would now need a co-signer! I had no co-signer and wouldn't ask anyone to do such a thing in any event. I asked if there was anything I could do he said not without a co-signer. Sorry, I wish you good luck.
I was stunned to put it mildly. Why had none of these people made any attempt whatsoever to tell me of this? Was it stupidity? Intentional? These are after all college educated people. Maybe I could have worked something out some other way and not needed a co-signer for what was left of my loans. For what amounted to less than 36 hours of class time (and poor quality time as well), a back pack, a few text books, and a calculator, it cost me well over $5,000. Maybe as much as $7,000.With interest and penalties now well over $10,000.
Left with no choice, I went back to my dead - end full time job, and tried to make due (which is a euphemism for living hand to mouth. Barely surviving. I couldn't afford to keep up with the loan payments I was stuck with, and they were ready to go into default (I'm still paying them to this very day).
One day I decided I better call Sallie Mae and try to work something out with them. It was during that call that I got the most unbelievable news I could have imagined to hear. Talking to the young man on the phone, he asked me why I stopped school? I told him that ITT Tech told me I needed a co-signer to get my loans back and I didn't have one. He proceeded to tell me in no uncertain terms that that was simply NOT the truth. He said he could send the money back to the school that very minute. I was completely taken aback. I was working full time, my mother was sicker than ever, plus I had a newborn son. How could I possibly manage to make this happen. Bottom line...I couldn't.
So there you have it. Either the entire ITT team dropped the ball. Or, they conspired to make a several thousand dollar profit for doing nothing, and ruined my life in the process.
Since then, I've seen lots of videos on youtube about how ITT Tech had ruined other peoples educations as well. Lots of them.
They sent me a letter in the mail a few months ago asking me if I would like to attend their absolutely "Top - notch" school. I called. I talked to a lady there at the same campus I went to for a minute or two. When I told her my story she was "appalled!", and said she would look into the matter. Of course none of the people I dealt with worked there any longer (big surprise), and she could not find anything whatsoever (not even any notes in my file...another big surprise), and she was just so sorry but there was nothing she could do. Once again I was wished good luck and shown the door.
People. PLEASE!!! Think very, very, hard before you make a decision to attend this school. Their commercials make it seem like they change peoples lives for the better. Maybe they have a charmed few. But, I've seen more ruined lives at their hands than saved ones. You can't even transfer your credits earned there to an accredited College, or University. You see that in the microscopic print in their tv ads if you look fast with a magnifying glass.
This is a horrible school, staffed by sub-par faculty. It simply is not worth the risk of spending all that time and money for what may very well turn out to be nothing but heartache.
Now they are doing the Paralegal Studies, and Criminal Justice thing. Along with a thousand other schools in the nation. Look in the paper and see how many positions you see for paralegals. Do you really think that a Law Enforcement agency is going to hire you in right off the street as a CSI? Doubtful...at best. Might get an $8.00 per hr job as a security guard though.
ITT Tech is a scam Report waiting to happen. Again and again. I'm going to search the site when I'm done and see if there are others like me.
Thank you for ruining my life ITT Tech. For robbing me of my education. For withholding information from me that may have at least given me a chance at a decent life. I don't know what your criteria is for hiring staff but it must be extremely low.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH ITT TECH! DO NOT BELIEVE WHAT YOU SEE ON TV IS THE STATUS QUO! I WILL GUARANTEE YOU IT'S NOT!
ITT TECH STINKS TO THE HIGH HEAVENS!
