Jacksonville Jiu-Jitsu
Jacksonville Jiu-Jitsu Beware of what your getting into Jacksonville, Florida
9th of Aug, 2011 by User468463
I was recently very shocked with the customer service I recieved here in Jacksonville. My son has been in and out of martial arts for only a little while. He attended two different dojos in only a about a years time. I was trying to find good teaching and good business practices as well. I will start out by saying I have been involved with the martial arts for the last 25 years. Longer than most of these instructors out there. I hold black blacks in two arts and have many years experience in a few others. Been trained by people that lived or trained by masters in Japan. I have never had so called instructors get upset or not return your phone calls when training just does not work out in your daily life. I got burned and they flat out dont care. I was told that I could cancel at any time but thats not the case. Most of these places use third party companys to take payments They dont tell you that either. They act all nice to you but when you leave the tables turn. Please do your research when looking for a place to train. Example. Jiu Jitsu. Jiu Jitsu did not come from Brazil it came from Japan derived from Judo. Be aware that are there two types of martial arts. Arts and Sport. Big differences. Do your research. Most sport driven is taught for the ring where fights are setup. Arts teach a little more street effective stuff. Also there are people out there that teach tradtional JJ and what is called Gracie Combatives. Go with the traditional. Heres why? I found out that you can have no experience in the martial arts go to a basic crash course over in California with the gracies. Now you can open a dojo as a white belt and teach. I studied JJ for a good while and that is shameful. For the kids class the instructor watches a video than teaches the class. You can get the same ones yourself. To get rank as an adult you have to film your test and send it off to Gracie and have them judge it. I have had a few friends train this way and got ranked as high as the instructor then left because they have nothing left to teach you. Also, dont buy equipment from them you can buy the same stuff at a used sports shop. One last thing Krav maga for adults is pretty good. Although it is basically taken from a hand full of Japanese arts. Everything taught i learned in a Japanese art. The kids dont do it. It basically is Karate with a cool name not worth it at all. For all people looking into the martial arts do your homework. Dont let something minor slip through the cracks. It may bite you in the end. Like I said I have been around the arts for a long and have seen good and bad sides. I have taught and coached as well. If you can afford it get private lessons or check out forums in your area there are people that train in parks or at there homes that charge very little. I am dissapointed at the treatment I got. Please dont let this happen to you. I cant stress enough do your research!
