I recently became disabled (paraplegic) and require assistance to operate my computer. I have had a Runescape account with Jagex for 7 years without incident. However, upon accessing my account now with the computer aids Jagex identified my computer aid as a macroing tool and severely penalized my character skills. I contacted them to explain my situation and provided proof of my disability. For most companies, this would have been enough to reverse the penalty. Contacting Jagex is a feat in itself, but it is even more difficult to find compassion from them. They are just jerks. (for parents to contact them, you can use "[email protected]). I asked them to please provide a list or any information they could of software that would allow disabled users to access their website and play their game that would not trigger their anti-macroing software. Instead of providing assistance they kept asking what software I was using. I worked for a computer development company and had several friends assist in developing the software I use. After providing this information to them I continued to ask what I can do to avoid being flagged as a macroer and to continue to play their game. Upon awaiting their response I accessed my account and they have now disabled my access. I involved my lawyer and they immediately provided the information I had been trying to ask from them for over 2 weeks regarding the software that can be used with their site, and they further stated that "We do strive to provide support and accessibility for our disabled users to use our products," which was a complete lie. They went to some extreme measures to avoid providing any assistance and continued to penalize me for accessing the game. These are not reputable people as they hide behind a wall of automated responders and secretive access, and they do not provide reasonable customer support. I could write pages regarding invalid charges to accounts, charging banned accounts, and other numerous questionable business practices. But, just read for yourself. No other online game has the negative or "fraud" related online complaints that Jagex has. This in itself speaks volumes on their conduct and behavior towards customers.
