Midas SIMPLE OIL CHANGE BECOMES A BLOWN ENGINE Douglasville, Georgia
11th of Dec, 2010 by User465720
In July, my son took his 92 Altima to Midas for a simple oil change. Apparently they neglected to replace the drained oil because within minutes of getting on the highway, his engine ceased! Midas sent a worker out to check the car and it was admitted that there was no oil in the car. The owner at first offered to buy the car but obviously found that it would be cheaper to purchase a certified salvaged engine and have the engine installed at Midas. I agreed but I should have know we were headed for more trouble because Midas does not routinely replace engines. The work that they do is mostly maintenance and more simplistic engine repair. Because my son was working and had to prepare to return to college in Alabama (and needed his car to be in working condition), we agreed. BUT two days after the engine was installed, that engine ceased!!!!! The owner then stated he would replace that engine. However, the owner refuses to provide us with any documentation whatsoever supporting that any of the engines were certified or how much mileage was on them. After we got the car back following the "second" engine, we found that the air conditioner no longer worked. While replacing these engines, the condenser was damaged. The own eventually replaced the condenser but called us the same day and told us that the new condenser had a hole in it and was not working properly. In the meantime, we could not leave the car there because my son had to return to college as he was only home for the weekend. Since then, the car engine continues to not work properly. The air still does not work.
We are not able to sell the car because we do not have any paperwork to support that the engine has ever been replaced and.... we had an independent ASE certified mechanic inspect the car thoroughly and found that the oil is leaking so badly on the under carriage of the car, that it is a FIRE HAZARD!!!!! Let alone many bolts, tubes and wires are missing! All of this information has been given in writing to the owner of Midas and he refuses to rectify the situation! WHAT A NIGHTMARE OVER A SIMPLE OIL CHANGE!!!!
