Northern Leasing Systems, Inc Identity Theft, Forgery, Harrassment NY, New York
26th of Nov, 2011 by User226593
I am another vicitim of Northern leasing Systems. Although, my story is a little different from the majority of victims, nevertheless, I got caught up with these criminals. In July of 2010, I discovered that I was a victim of identity theft. My personal information was used by unknown criminals to open a checking account with Bank of America. I discovered this after receiving calls and letters from a collection agency trying to collect overdraft fees for BoA pertaining to a checking account. I never opened a checking account with BoA so I called BoA and initiated an investigation with their fraud claims unit. Around the same time, I started getting harassing calls from Northern Leasing Systems telling me I owed them thousands of dollars and that it was being sent to their legal dept. Who the Hell is Northern Leasing Systems? Within 48 hours BoA called me back and confirmed that their investigation showed that I was not the individual who opened this checking account and that I was, in fact, a victim of ID theft. BoA sent me a confirming letter releasing me from all penalties associated with this account. BoA explained to me that when the account was opened, a small deposit was made and then soon withdrawn. Within a few days, there was an attempt to charge my account approx $3,000 by a company named Northern Leasing Systems. Hence, the overdraft. I never heard of NLS and started researching on the internet. Pretty scary stuff is what I found. I immediately went to my local police dept to report the ID theft and asked them to contact NLS to explain to them that I was a victim of ID theft. My detective said the person he spoke to was difficult to deal with and told him I had to fax them authorization to release any information to the police. So, I faxed them authorization along with the letter from BoA. They then faxed the supposed lease to my detective. He indicated that my personal info was used and the business name was a Thompson Financial Services out of Florida. He could not locate this Thompson company. (big surprise!) My detective told me not to worry. That I was obviously a victim and not responsible for any of the money NLS was trying to collect. He said if I didn't hear anything else, he would probably close out the case. Well, here we are over a year later and in Nov. 2011, NLS sends me 2 letters saying I owe them nearly $9,000.00!! and that they notified the credit agencies, blah, blah, blah. I immediately contacted my detective and he reopened the case. He contacted NLS. He said she was pleasant enough and told him I had to call NLS to request a fraud form and they would mail it out to me. I called her and requested the form. I explained that I was a victim and that I had already faxed the letter from BoA to prove it. She said, "Oh then include that too, that will be a slam dunk for you.". I asked, "why didn't you send me this form last year when the fraud was explained to you?" She said, Oh, I don't know." OK, fine. I'll wait for the form and see what it entails. I received the form this week and it is totally unacceptable. NLS is asking me to answer questions pertaining to a lease I never signed or have in my possession. They did not include a copy of this supposed lease with the claim form. They want to know if I or anyone else used the credit card machine, where it is, etc. How do I know where it is? How do I know if it was ever used? I never received any machine and don't have a need for a credit card machine as I don't own a business. But the REAL problem I have with their form is that they are asking for 3 cancelled checks from my bank account, photo ID and my signature written 5 times and to get the form notarized! They think I am stupid. They think I have not researched them. Yeah right, I'm going to supply NLS with my legitimate checking account info, photo ID and signature so they can alter this already fraud contract and then try to drain my checking account? NO WAY! The only good thing about this mess is that NLS has not gotten a nickel from me because the checking account that was used was fraud and not mine. At this point, I'm considering suing NLS for fraud and harassment. I truly believe NLS or one of their sales reps was complicit in the theft of my ID. I'm not going to allow NLS to continue to harass me and ruin my credit. I am also in the process of contacting the credit reporting agencies to remove the ONLY negative entry on my credit report from you guessed it, Northern Leasing Systems. Interesting how they reported that they wrote off nearly $6,0000 in Aug 2010. Now they are sending me letters stating that I owe them $9,000.00. Wouldn't the IRS and NY State Tax Office be interested in knowing that NLS is writing off fraudulent bad debts and probably taking deductions against these writeoffs? Wouldn't the IRS and NY State Tax Office be interested in knowing that NLS is then continuing to harass in trying to collect inflated fraudulent amounts which they already wrote off? How long are going to get away with this? IT HAS TO STOP!!! I am going to write to every entity I can think of. Attorney General, NYS Governor, FBI, etc, etc. until I see someone take action against NLS and shut them down!
