To be fair, I think Parsons is a great DESIGN SCHOOL, but when it comes to software skills like: Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, indesign, after effects, Flash, actionscript and Dreamweaver Web design they are horrible. I asked for my money back after spending 3 years of my life and over $14,000. I was not prepared for the job market at all. I felt very foolish going to interviews. My software skills were very sub-par. In some instances i knew more about the software then my teachers. and this should not happen. Most of my teachers could not wait for class to be over so they could DASH OUT of class in a hurry to avoid questions. The reason I went to a top design school was to get a job not a degree or worthless certificate. I thought I was learning proper software techniques from working professionals, they taught me very bad adobe software techniques. Many of my teachers pointed me to youtube videos... that is not what i paid for. Based on other friends experience who went to other schools like: Pratt, The New School or SVA, they had the same very bad experience. They said the traditional design classes were great. But every single software class was extremely sub-par and their teachers also pointed them to youtube or other online services
I am posting this scam complaint to avoid others from making the same mistake. 4 years after my training I was able to find a trainer that taught me all the Adobe software skills i did not learn at Parsons. As of Feb 2011, I now have a great design job with zero thanks to Parsons School of Design. Please don't fall into the "design school" trap like I did and wasted time and lots of money. Find a good experienced private tutor that knows their stuff. I would skill like to get some if not most of my money back from Parsons. I feel the reason most students don't complain because they fear repercussions from Parsons, the industry or other design schools
