Reliable Credit Association
Reliable Credit Association Stephanie Gillis,
17th of Nov, 2010 by User360513
After reading the other complaints against Reliable Credit, I can confirm many of these statements. About 4 years ago my husband and I got a car loan through Reliable Credit. We know better now but we were told because of my husband's credit (he went through a terrible divorce that bankrupted him) that was the only loan we could get. When one of our payments was one day late we received several calls from Stephanie Gillis, who is apparently a manager at the Milwaukie branch. I called her back and said I mailed the payment and they should have it shortly and sorry it was late. She said no problem just let me know if you are ever going to be late again. Even though they said the payment was late I never received anything saying I owed more. After a few months my husband got laid off and we fell a FEW DAYS behind on the loan. I called to talk to someone and got "Travis" I explained the situation and said we were trying to come up with the payment but didn't have it right now. He said very rudely "You are telling me what you can't do I want to know what you can do. "I told him he didn't have to be rude. I said your rates are ridiculous so it isn't like you are doing us any favors. He told me that was because my credit was "crappy." At that point he got very angry and said he was going to send someone to repo the car. I called back crying and talked to "Mike". I asked if it was possible to add the payment on to the end of our loan and he said they didn't do that. He was really nice and said to make a $200 payment and they would be good with it. After a few more months the car was totaled in an accident (that we were not at fault with) at that point we were told that our car was worth $3000 less than the original loan which after over a year of payments showed no different in the principle balance. We got another loan through them (we had no other choice because of my husbands employment status) and they tacked on the $3000. After a year the balance still did not go down. Soon, I was laid off as well. We kept up the loan, until recently. We fell behind a month but then kept making payments. In Sept. 2010 we didn't have the full amount and sent in half hoping to be able to pay the rest later. We didn't get caught up. After the Oct. payment was due we received a letter saying we needed to pay $670 to bring our loan strictly up to date (our payments are $416 or $437 if they are late). The letter stated that if we couldn't pay the amount in 5 days to call and set up a payment arrangement. My husband called and talked to "Travis". He told that they would not accept any partial payment of everything owed which they now said was $950, and the car was out for repossession. So I am not sure what they meant by saying they would work out a payment arrangement. My husband asked to speak with Stephanie and was told she was unavailable. He left a message and never heard back from her. He called back several times in the next two days. Finally "Travis" and said Stephanie was "pissed off" my husband was leaving so many messages and told him to call my husband back. He said that they were tired of dealing with us and unless we came up wih the full amount, they were taking the car (which I might add is our only car and my husbands job requires him to drive to one to two clients homes daily) He was told Stephanie Gillis would not speak to him. We could not come up with the $950 and were afraid if we sent a partial payment they would cash it and then take the car anyway. After the November payment was due, the repo man showed up at our door. He first asked us to open our garage, which of course we refused. He said we had two choices we could give them the car right now and have 15 days to come up with the money owed or #2 Reliable Credit was going to court the following morning and getting a court order saying we had to turn the car in within 72 hours and as of tomorrow morning they would tack on another $3500 to our loan amount. We still refused to give him the car. He went back out to his truck and called reliable and knocked on our door three times. My husband called reliable and asked to speak with Stephanie Gillis manager. "Mike" took the call and claimed to be the manager. He told us we had to pay $1309 that day to avoid further action. He also said our insurance which we had for 4 months wasn't adequate and that unless we proved we had the proper insurance they had to purchase a policy to cover them and our amount would be $1800+. My husband sad he was going to call the insurance company and make sure the policy stated what they wanted. e asked for an email t forward the current policy to and "Mike" said he had to call back on the phone and that he could only talk to Stephanie Gillis. He said no one else would speak with him not even the president of the company. After getting the insurance straightened out, my husband had the insurance company call Stephanie on 3 way and she talked with them and was satisfied. He called her back several time that day to straighten on the outstanding loan. Finally two days later she called back and said that she was now mad that he had asked to talk to her supervisor. My husband told her he had started a new job and was getting paid the following day and would have enough to get our payments caught up. He said he didn't understand how if we owed $670 in Oct. and only had another payment due where they got the $1309 figure. By our calculation we should only owe around $1100. She told him that "Mike" was being nice and she now calculated from late fees we owed $1800 plus $300 for the work the repo man did. He asked if we could tack some of this onto the end of our loan, because there was no way he would have that. She said no. There was nothing else she could do and the money was due by the following day. Consumers beware of the following facts about this company that I did not know:

I am not sure who this person "Mike" is but he is not a supervisor, and he is not a lawyer as someone else on ripoff report said he presented himself as. Reliable Credit is only willing to work with you in the beginning of your loan. After they have collected your interest for 1 or 2 years they are done and will repossess your car. They make up figures to fit their mood, or I guess their quota. If they try to tell you they can go to court and get an order making you turn the car in they are lying to get you to let the repo man take the car. At which point they will not let you make up the amount they claim you owe but will demand the full amount for the entire loan. They claim you do not have sufficient insurance so they can claim to have purchased a policy and then even if you prove you have proper insurance they will charge you for the premium for the time period they said they didn't have proof of insurance. They do not pay the repo company by the hour, they only pay them if they bring the car in. That is why these guys try to be sneaky. They don't get paid with out the vehicle. It is better to ride the bus than get a loan through reliable credit Association. After four years of paying them we are $3000 more in debt to them than when started. We have not paid anything towards our principle.
