Sick and tired of B.S. 'on-demand' courier companies who basically believe a Independent Owner-Operator can live on $50/day in 2011-12, I went looking for a route company. This is where my downfall began; spying the ad by Reliable Express Transport [RET] claiming to need driver's for routes, I went in, $11 round-trip gasoline, to apply.
At no time over the telephone did the recruiter claim that I needed to be available for any packages going to Rockford. Over the telephone, the recruiter just said to deliver packages 'in the Chicago Area'. NEWSFLASH!~~ Rockford is NOT in the Chicagoland Area---it is some 80 miles away. This was the first Omen that I should have heeded to and this scam outfit ran from. I told I would have to go home and think about it.
After crunching a spreadsheet all weekend, I found that I could get by going to Rockford if I delivered 65 packages per day at an average of $2.22 per package, and informed recruiter so over the telephone. Recruiter then instructs me to get training with a current O/O. $11 round-trip to the office to train.
Another $11 round-trip to the office to fill out paperwork and apply and get issued an ID. An hour's worth of online forms to be read and digitally signed. No work available for me to start right away so back home I went.
Another $5.50 trip to the office to start my first day. Chaos, mayhem, and lack of dock space to get my pallet of packages sorted, scanned, and loaded in to my van. $5.30 in tolls to the territory, did not finish the route until well after dark because I got out of the warehouse so late. $6.60 in gas back home.
Second day, about as bad as the first except $6.40 in tolls. No tolls are reimbursed. About the same $12 or so in gas.
Thrid and fourth day were decent- week ended.
When I went to start my second week and the Hitler lookng Operations Manager claims that there is no work for me. Newbies whose first day there were getting pallets, why not me? I point over my left shoulder to him at the 30-40 pallets with boxes stacked at least 4 fett high, some 10 feet high, and he still said there was no work for me. $11 round-trip gas money for nothing. He could not just take one package off every-other pallet just to let me make some money and cover my fuel expense to the ofice. BREACH OF CONTRACT - The Route was to afford me at a MINIMUM 60 packages per day!
Also, other deceptions
1) The recruiter will tell you that you will get from $1.75-$8.00 per package WRONG! It is $1.75 per STOP! This means that in ten stops you could be paid only just $11.75! I brough three min bozex to an address and only received $1.75 from this vendor.
2) You will be forced to work either a Satruday or Sunday
3) You will average well below $2.22 / package
4) You will get stuck in far away places since you will be a 'newbie' Unless you live in Mokena or Mc Henry, this routes will eat up your gas
5) They will remind you that you are an independent contractor yet will not let you make your own hour nor days i.e. forced weekends
6) $20 application fee
7) $50-150 background check fee (I told them I was leaving and to cancel the background check--they ignored me)
8) $20 weekly Occupational Insuranct
9) $35 Quarterly drug testing
10) Only two persons manning the 'Problems Podium' for the 95 some O/Os. Problems can be with scanners or bad addresses or other time wasting issues. My second day there I had to podium four times for four different issues--65 minutes shot in the arse waiting in line and for resolutions.
This company will be good for you if you can make 15 deliveries per hour while traveling on a flying carpet. Otherwise, stay the Fokk away! I worked some 75 hours and may only clear $100 after fuel, tolls, and fees and beat up my van for 800 miles.
Don't contract with this schet outfit. Go on welfare instead. You won't put your license or van at risk, you won't have to show up at the warehouse at 4:00 in the morning, you won't have a $100 fuel bill every other day, and you make more money. |

| reliable Express is still connected with United delivery service working there is so stressful nobody cares about anybody they play around with your paychecks by picking and choosing if they're going to give you good routes or home deliveries and home deliveries that pay you $2.50 per delivery I work for 2 weeks and am going to bring home about $400 I pay them more for everything that I do then they pay me you don't make your own hours you pay for your fuel surcharge you pay for the paperwork you pay for your scanner you pay for every thing and whatever's left you get back I'm making less than minimum wage I could work at McDonalds and get more money they pick and choose who they like and help them they slip seat people meaning you go when you get hired you wait to get a route which is a dedicated area and it pays more and then if they don't like you so much the next 5 people to come out behind you they get results instead of you you're stuck on maybe 10 home deliveries a day at 250 a pop reliable express transport is a joke they don't care about their people and United delivery service is the parent company and they don't give a darn about their people working here you better be have money cuz you sure as heck aren't going to make any.I am up 12 to 14 hours a day for these people that's where I get I get paid less than minimum wage now you know |
