It has been 15 years since they worked at my house (May 1996). Sarkisian Builders were hired to finish my basement. The work included a new furnace (forced water heat conversion from forced hot air) , new bath, toilet, shower and sink (using QuickJon) as well as a fully finished family room, bedroom, laundry room and closets. Part of the job also included a two zone system, so work was also done to plumb the heating pipes for the upstairs of my house. We have had experienced problems with the ejector off and on (septic smell in cellar at times) and never realized that it was due to the installation not being to code! Chapter 248 CMR. In summary, the ejector toilet installed in the basement was vented to the air in the septic tank! The code strictly states that the venting is done above the highest drain in the home by 42". This was clearly not done. I understand that it has been too long (Statute of Limitations) and the wording of the contract (1 year from from workmanship and materials) to be able to recover damages (to be able to sell my home, I just paid a plumber $1200 to undo the job and correctly install the ejector vent piping to the roof) from Small Claims Court, however something must be done to help protect others from being ripped off.
