Star Rebates, Inc. Monthly Gift Card Scam Seattle, Washington
15th of May, 2011 by User678519
I received the Star Rebates Monthly Gift Card for a $500 Fuel certificate when I purchased a specific service. When you examine the details of this program it stipulates that you must designate a specific gas station, purchase $100 of gas each month, submit the receipts to Star Rebates by the 15th day of the following month and you will receive a $20 visa card within 45 days. I began using this program in April 2010 and when the month of November 2010 hit, the program came to a complete standstill. I continued to send in my monthly receipts but I wasn't receiving the monthly $20 visa card. I sent numerous emails to which there was never a response. Then I called several times and was always told that they were "behind" in reviewing. This went on for months. When April 2011 came and I still had no rebates back to November I contacted the BBB. They did assist in pushing things and I did end up receiving both November and December rebates. However, as we approach June there has been no activity from Star Rebates on my account since then and I am owed clear back to January 2011 (and I continue to send in the monthly gas receipts). The BBB did indicate that since this company is not registered with them that they really have no recourse. If anyone else has had success with rectifying this issue with Star I would be interested in that information.
E-mail Seattle consumer rights advocate Amy Clancy @ KIRO TV she is exposing these people [email protected] They have ripped me off too. She will respond promptly to your e-mail. It's probably mail fraud. Also you can e-mail the Attorney General a complaint using the following link: www.atg.wa.gov/fileacoplaint.aspx
PS: I e-mailed the AG a few months ago and got my first 3 cards. I had to email them again recently.
I have experienced the same results! I signed up and paid the required fees upfront, in February of 2010. I did receive the initial 4 months of $20.00 gift cards but have not since June of 2010. I experienced the same run around each time I have called or sent a email. I only receive a standard email that says they are behind. I don't know where we as consumers can turn for help but this company DEFINITELY does not live up to what they say they will do.
Someone really needs to take these guys out of business!!!
Its unfortunate, but ADT, a national alarm company, was represented by by their sales representative, as using this program to help their employees. As we had no reason to doubt the sincerity of a national company person with credentials, we signed up for both the alarm service and the rebate program from Star Rebates. We did receive 3 payments, but some were returned as improperly filled out, and the remaining rebates are still being processed. I only hope more see this and do not sign up for either company.
We signed up May, paid the up-front fees, followed every one of their stringent rules for submission of expenses, have paid $4.33 each month for registered mail [since they declare themselves not responsible if submissions are not delivered], and have received confirmation each month since July that are submission has been received and we should receive our rebate cards within 60 days. It hasn't happened. Thanks for the contact info for the attorney general. That's my next step. Along with contacting the company that promoted this rebate offer.
