This was at the point I was informed the amount actually debited
from my account may be more than expected to reflect international exchange
rates. hey???

Tried to call US and UK numbers, and both were
unregistered. "live chat" to the supposed Customer Services didn't
work, and I'm awaiting a reply to my email.

I have cancelled my card as a precaution, but hope it wasn't necessary.
