scared me into giving them $$
30th of Jan, 2012 by massmom
I had gotten a call a couple weeks ago (supposedly from US Justice Dept.) stating that I owed some cash service company $4oo., but I couldnot understand them because of their foreign accent. When I told them that I didn't recall owing any cash service that amount of money they told me that I MUST pay it or they would have me arrested and call my employer!! SO,I payed the money because I really got scared, and didn't want this to happen to me. I had gotten an e-mail statement a day later from VCollect,INC. stating that their was a transaction made from my account for the $400. when I went to call about the detailed information the transaction was about, it was just an answering service stating that I should leave my name and phone #. However, I did not leave a message They also are planning on taking $500. out of my account in a another month. I have cancelled my credit card that I had used for that transaction, but I'm still scared. OMG, I feel like such an idiot!!! Could someone PLEASE help me find away out of this mess ? !!!

Happened to me before. Tell your bank that you were scammed, they will most likely refund your money and go after them. When they called I asked for the firm's name, the name of the guy I was talking to, and they wouldn't give me any of that.. I simply said that they needed to send me something in the mail before I respond to that and my attorney looks at it. They never called again after that.

My aunt was involved in the same con. Not long after being scared into paying a couple hundred dollars, fraudulent charges from VCollect started to show up on a completely separate bank account. They charged 5 times over a few months. After alerting the bank the charges were reversed. The scammers then contacted the bank with a copy of her drivers license. The charges were reinstated and her local branch told her they would not help her.

In my own searching I have found the person behind these scams to be involved in lead generating websites. It is possible the scammer is receiving personal info from these websites and can attack your other bank accounts. Please do not give anything over the phone to anyone claiming to be affiliated with Vcollect-inc or ICollect-inc another one of their websites. If you have already been in contact with these fake debt collection sites I would carefully monitor any bank accounts connected to your name.

If anyone who has been scammed would be willing to send me the company phone number or merchant id associated with the fraudulent charge I would appreciate it. [email protected]
