I live in the Markham area. A woman came by the door and asked for the owner of the home. My mother came down to speak with her. The woman, who in appearance seemed Greek, is short and stubby, advised she owns a roofing business and was in the area for the day. She continued on to say that we had a perfect roof besides one part which needed to be changed. She gave us a piece of paper with computer print, which was suppose to be a business card and advised of the price of $150. At that point my mother was hesitant on the price and she quickly told my mother she will do it for $120 for seniors, which my mother agreed too. The woman left at that point and signaled to two others in a van. I was adamant on seeing something more proper than a computer printed business card, which only had a phone number. I went out to the van and requested that before he start we need to see a licenses. He wanted to give me the same business print out in which I clearly said something other then what I already have. At that point he advised that it was not a problem and signaled the same woman who was at another house. I went on the net at this point to try pull up something on the business. Shortly after, the woman comes to the door along with the man who is ready to climb the roof. Telling us that its okay and she has been in the business for 9 years, so on and so forth. I asked her one more time for what I wanted to see and her response, in an irritated manner, was that she has to have a license to be doing this but she does not bring it around with her and she would have to go home and get it- clearly that was foolishness. Not to fail to mention, throughout our conversation she is really pushy and tries to over talk and convince you, but when you through the points back at her she gets really irritated, seemed even angry. I told the man to take the latter down and do not even begin to start. I took the time to write this because I was able to pull up something on the internet at that exact time negotiating with her, to be alerted that it was a SCAM. If it was just my mother alone, in which I thing she preyed on because she was older... she would have gotten away with this. Besides all this, always get a second opinion on things
