Charleston Photo Video Leslie Leighton and Doug Breach of Contract and Unprofessionalism charleston, South Carolina
14th of Apr, 2011 by User675162
We hired Leslie and Doug from Charleston Photo Video for our wedding on 5/7/10. We purchased a package deal with them to include coverage of our rehearsal dinner, pre wedding preparations, and full wedding coverage. Night of the rehearsal dinner, Leslie and Doug never showed and never called, we had to call them. They stated that they were sick and would not make it, but didnt want to call us because they didnt want to upset us. They were late to the pre-wedding preparations and were extremely unprofessional at the wedding. My husband and I were NOT happy with the pictures that were supposedely edited, to include a picture of my matron of honor with her panties showing. They were difficult to work with and unwilling to give us our money back when requested for not showing up to the rehearsal dinner. If you look at the Better Business Bureau, they already have 8 complaints against them. BUYER BEWARE.

We had about the same experience! They didn't get there in time for pre-wedding photos and the few they did get weren't good didn't get half of the pictures we wanted and one had my moms boobs showing and she posted it online and it's in our wedding book! Speaking of the wedding book it was trash the biggest waste of money I could have printed the same thing off my computer at home. At our wedding the man was always missing and she couldn't take pictures because she was always looking for him and let me tell you he was dressed professionally he had a black short sleeve shirt on with bright red flames all over it this was over a $40, 000 wedding and he is there in a flame shirt talking to people! She couldnt take our reception pictures until she ate food! As for our video it was complete garbage it didn't even have half of the reception barely had our dance no footage of the cake cutting at all none of us leaving basically lost half of our day! And what they did get of our wedding wasn't anything to brag about. Pictures didn't look any better they are supposed to be edited we got married outside she told me they could take thing out of our pics that took away from us there was a white van that belonged to the hotel in half our pictures. Basically if u want low quality pictures and a half way done job save your money and ask a friend to do it!

This Ndford35 is a black guy who married a blonde white girl. Their wedding was almost 2 hrs. late and almost all photos had to be done in the DARK on the BEACH. He complained about every single vendor there, trying to get a refund from every one of them. It is pretty pitiful when you cannot accept the good work of others and try to get something for free. I would dare any professional photographer to even come close to the great photography and photojournalism done on this wedding.

As for the first LYING paragraph-we are soon to sue for defamation of character. We have never photographed anyone in panties. Read this letter we have submitted to many sites as they have tried to slander our name. They are pure liars and we will be seeking legal action for these ridiculous lies. I will also post the link to their wedding as anyone is welcome to see for themselves. The panties she was referring to was IMG-2014. Nothing more than the girl's BACK of a camisole. What a lie.

Here's pour letter:

Case # 34025377

Rather than continue with a letter that reflects our sincere disappointment in their behavior, we will address their falsehoods numerically:

1. First, we are shocked and totally amazed at the outright lies these people are telling about us. It is pure slander. Our photographs were nothing but beautiful and there were over 600 of them. With storybook style from the start of getting ready, to the great “of the moment” memories captured in clear beautiful color. Again, there were over 600 images that also included group portraits one could only hope they got from their photographer. They were perfect and beautiful. All of our photographs included perfect artistic posing after the wedding and awesome photojournalistic shots in non-posed moments, along with pure fun and emotions. Our images were beautiful, complete and not ugly as they described.
Hence, LIE #1.
See this link: http://charlestonphotovideo.smugmug.com/Weddings/5-7-10-George/12676612_5qnzf#911815927_vLMhk

2. . Lie # 3. This is not in the contract as she says: We never agreed to this at all. “We had agreed in contract that Doug was to be where the men were to get them getting ready, and Leslie was to be at the girls beach house to film the girls getting ready.” Outright lie. She has the contract, yet lies about its’ content. If you would like a copy, we will gladly send it to you.

The bride and groom asked about the 2 locations at our initial meeting. We told them we were not driving two cars and that once we were done shooting the guys (they get ready faster), then we would proceed to the girls. We have never taken 2 vehicles to any wedding. We are a husband/wife team who live together, leave the house together, shoot the entire event together, then leave the event together to go home together. We never discussed vehicles after the initial meeting. Hence, lie #3.

3. We’re only on #3 and they’ve told 4 lies so far….LIE #4
“but took what should have been 30 minute to an hour process to compete and made it almost two hours to complete.”
It took us only took only 40 minutes. After capturing the marriage license signing, the first posed alter shot: 5:42pm. Last posed alter shot: 5:52 We only spent 10” in the church as everyone was anxious to be photographed in the beautiful gardens. First garden shot: 5:52pm. Last garden shot 6:12pm. Our total time was only 40”. Ask how we know this? We are constantly trying to improve our time and this large group and extended family only took 40 minutes. They stated that it was almost 2 hours So many lies we almost lost count. LIE #4.

4. LIE #5 We asked if we can eat due to the fact not only is it a long day…but also because my wife is a diabetic and has to eat or can die or become seriously ill. They told us at the reception to help ourselves and feel free to indulge in dinner. Any photographer who shoots weddings will attest to the fact that the ONLY time to eat is when everyone else does. We did ask for permission to eat. Hence, LIE #5

5. LIE #6 is that after being told to eat, we waited in line with other guests and did not step in out of line. “Leslie and Doug were rude to, and stepped in front of my guests during dinner (buffet style)”

6. LIE #7 The next lie brings up the part about drinking:
We do not drink alcohol. PERIOD. Leslie has diabetes and does not drink and I do not drink at all. PERIOD. The statement that we were intoxicated is a lie. The truth is, Leslie is a diabetic and she obviously doesn’t drink. I don’t drink either as I take medication for a back problem and cannot combine the two. We believe this is number 6 on the LIE-o-meter. We did watch as their guests became intoxicated. Maybe it was their drunken sense of interpretation that made them think we were drunk. We don’t drink. “It was also brought to my attention that they had been drinking, and seemed intoxicated (as noticed by both myself and multiple guests).” Need we defend this one any further? What a horrible thing to say about us.

7. LIE #8 “If they were so sick the night before, how were they able to eat and drink freely the following night to the obvious detriment to our photos?” Again we do not drink alcohol. We took a small 7 min. break for a few bites. Then follows: Photo of Krystal and George eating @ 6:50pm. Buffet table shot @ 6:52pm. We stood to eat at a table on the surrounding porch. We took a 7 min. food break and then photographed the beautiful sunset shots @ 6:59pm.These images were perfect. There was no detriment to these beautifully created images. Again, something you only HOPE your photographer can capture. If we were eating freely, then we would have taken much more time than 7 minutes. And since WE DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL, we weren’t drinking freely either and their photos turned out perfectly!
Hence, Lie #8.

7. LIE #9 “We received the unedited photos in June” After a few weeks of professional EDITING that was done for FREE, the photos were online for viewing on June 24th. We got their photo choices 2 months, 5 days later on Aug. 29th. The photo choices took a few weeks to finish and they stated on the phone that the photos were soo good that it war hard to choose. She even picked a few black and whites for her album that had obviously been professionally edited that we included. LIE #9, we did professionally edit the photos for FREE.

8. LIE #10. We have offered to do an even portrait shoot, that of which rehearsal was traded for and was explained at the initial meeting and again at the contract signing, the rehearsal we were to doing for FREE as they were whining about the package they chose containing a bridal portrait shoot they would not be able to do. Her dress was being altered to accommodate her BABY BUMP and they weren’t ready in time to do a bridal portrait.

The evening of the rehearsal Leslie had become ill due to a complication with her diabetes. This illness was caused by a change in the brand of insulin which was never a factor before. It hit her hard, causing extreme low blood sugar. Due to the potential seriousness of this disease obviously I could not go to the rehearsal and leave her unattended. She could have slipped into a coma and then would not have been at the wedding at all.
We have offered to do a portrait shoot, that of which rehearsal was traded for, at our expense.

9. LIE # 11. The albums were created to their specifications. The content was chosen by them. The albums were all identical in content and only the sizes differed for the parents album. The albums were identical to the albums shown to them on the day they hired us. They loved the albums so much that they wanted 3 of them. We did exactly that.

Additionally, they never gave us ANY indication that we could not create the album with artistic merit. Their album was no different from the other 27 yrs. of album making experience that we have. Also, we don’t write extremely rude emails to our clients no matter how they act.

10. We always respond to our clients and as we are available as late as 11pm sometimes it is easier for us to email. Other times we are with other clients and a phone call would not be appropriate to the clients we are with. Funny that they were able to choose 100 photographs from ALL the bad photos. Given we gave them over 600 images.

This was explained to Krystal in an email that she replied to:

Hi Guys!
What a beautiful day it was. We are very pleased w/ the photos. Take your time in viewing. I'd say pick 50-75 of your must haves for the album. There will be more, but picking a low number will assure me that your choices are included. It also gives me more creativity room.

We'll be here should you need anything. The best way to get me is by email. I always answer emails within a day or so.

As was explained at the initial meeting and again at the contract signing, the rehearsal we were to doing for free as they were wining about the package they chose containing a bridal portrait shoot they would not be able to do. Her dress was being altered to accommodate her BABY BUMP and they weren’t ready in time to do a bridal portrait.

10. She said that we photographed her matron of honor in her underwear. This certainly looks like a shirt to us on the matron of honor. It just looks like a shirt. The best part of this whole LIE and what gave us the biggest laugh was they had chosen this picture as one of her choices for the album. We were shooting from behind the matron to capture the face of the little flower girl as she was applying make up to the little girl. Yet, with disliking that photo so much, she still picked it for her album and it was included.

10. Lie #12. Also, just for the record, after exhausting every effort trying to satisfy George (family portrait shoots, etc.), we simply told him to do what he felt was right. There was no mention of a lawyer.

Closing:
We would be totally happy to do a trade to do family portraits with their new baby, even though the offer for rehearsal dinner was for free and was missed. This is reasonable business. To dispute the quality of our work would be an error. It can be verified as beautiful on: http://charlestonphotovideo.smugmug.com/Weddings/5-7-10-George/12676612_5qnzf#911815927_vLMhk, but would be best seen on the DVD enclosed.
Unless the George and Krystal are in dire straits for extra money with them having a new baby now, we just do not understand why they told outright lies about us for an excuse to request funds. We do know babies can be expensive, but that is no reason to put our reputation down.

Case # 34025377

Dear Sirs:

We understand that you stay pretty busy and probably do not have time to review all details that might come in on a case, but we must insist that you take the time to read our report and also view the slideshow given to you in this report. The slideshow is only 5 min. and 3 seconds. Not too much time when you are considering a company’s 27 yr. reputation.

We do ask of you, since we have proven that there were 12 lies told, possibly more, that this report by this confused consumer not be posted online. It is false accusations. We have proven that these accusations are lies. Total lies.

We did beautiful work and for someone to come in and try to defame our reputation is totally bogus.

Your job is: to act as mutually trusted intermediaries between consumers and businesses to resolve disputes.

But, by publishing these lies, you are not trusted mediator. We demand that any correspondence be REMOVED from online and be done only by US Mail. We will not let these lies to be viewed by unknowing consumers.

Sincerely,

First shot of girls: 2:47pm she said we were not there at 3pm
Were at guys house at 1:55 pm. No one was there. They were not there. We proceeded to girls house.

Day of the wedding, Leslie and Doug were supposed to meet us at our respective houses at 3:00. They were not at either house at 3:00.

Never talked about album creation/specifications

After (from alter to gardens) shots took exactly: 40”to complete, not 2 hrs.
First alter shots: First 5:42pm Last alter shot: 5:46pm Garden shots: 5:52pm-6:12pm
We have proof of this.

”but took what should have been 30 minute to an hour processc to compete and made it almost two hours to complete” First alter shot: 5:42pm We spent only 10” minutes in the church doing alter shots because everyone wanted to take advantage of the beautiful green garden. We took our first group shot at 5:42 pm and last image was shot at exactly 30” later at 6:12 pm.
So, we were

**making a book which contained a majority of the pictures we did not choose actuality: We did (1) one overall outside church shot, (2) vertical bride and groom on alter, (3) one bride and groom horizontal sunset, wedding rings/hands, (4) close up of “custom pizza cutter blade” in pizza cake, one action dance shot of guests but there was ever any conversation about album design, as we have been designing albums for 27 yrs. and their albums were no exception to our artistic creativity.

After a few weeks of professional EDITING that was done for FREE, the photos were online for viewing on June 24th. She even picked a few black and whites for her album that we included. We got their photo choices 2 months, 5 days later on Aug. 29th.

We asked the bride and groom for dinner and went thru the line like everyone else only taking a 7 min. break to take a couple of bites.

We do not drink alcohol. Period.
(If they were so sick the night before, how were they able to eat and drink freely the following night to the obvious detriment to our photos?) We are not sure what they consider “so sick”, but diabetes is a very serious business. However, with that being said, and with us “sober as a judge”, there were several hundred incredible photojournalist photos taken at the reception + many beautiful bride and groom sunset shots. PROFESSIONAL EDITING enhanced the beautiful sunset lighting. Don’t think we missed much in the 7” of eating it.

We are not sure why they do not like their books, when they were the ones who created them. We created all 3 albums including all of their photo choices. They were all identical. We just don’t understand them not liking them when they are the ones who created the content. The images were carefully placed in each page to prortray the way they wanted their album to look. The album pages have every photo they chose.
The email/phone issue that she replied to is also described and underlined in this email:
Hi Guys!

They knew from seeing examples of our work that the parents albums would be smaller copies of their album.

We have never taken 2 vehicles to any wedding. We told the bride and groom that once the guys had been photographed, we would then go to the bride’s location. We told them at our initial meeting that we did not drive 2 vehicles to the wedding. Hence, lie #2.

We arrived at the grooms/guys location at 1:50 pm. The man in the home told us that they had left earlier and he wasn’t sure if they would be back or not. We waited around for quite a few minutes to see if they would return, but they did not. We then talked to the groom on the phone. He said they had left early and to go on to the bride’s house. Now it was 2:15 and we left to go to the bride’s location. We got to the 2nd location, parked, loaded our gear and went into the bride’s location. We were there before 2:35 to get our gear on, and take that first shot of the bride getting her hair fixed at 2:42pm. We were and had been at BOTH locations before we were even supposed to be there as the bride stated. We took our first shot of the bride getting her hair fixed at 2:42 pm. She said we were not at either location by 3:00pm, when in fact, we had been to BOTH locations well before 3:00pm. Hence, Lie #2.

3. Lie number 3 was about the after ceremony shots. They took us only took only 40 minutes. After capturing the marriage license signing, the first posed alter shot: 5:42pm. Other times we are with other clients and a phone call would not be appropriate to the clients we are with. Funny that they were able to choose 100 photographs from ALL the bad photos. Given we shot over 600 images.

12. She said that we photographed her matron of honor in her underwear. The only under garment we shot was the right back shoulder of the girl. It just looks like a shirt. It showed a girl’s back, covered in a black camisole. She was applying make up to the little flower girl. The best part of this whole affair and what gave us the biggest laugh was they had chosen this picture as one of her choices for the album. We were shooting from behind the matron to capture the face of the little flower girl as she was applying make up to the little girl. It was the right back shoulder blade for crying out loud! Yet, with disliking that photo so much, she still picked it for her album.

13. Lie #10. Also, just for the record, after exhausting every effort trying to satisfy George (family portrait shoots, etc.), I simply told him to do what he felt was right. There was no mention of a lawyer.

We would be totally happy to do a fair trade to do family portraits of with their new baby, even though the offer for rehearsal dinner was for free and was missed. This is reasonable business. Unless the George and Krystal are in dire straits for extra money with them having a new baby now, we just do not understand why outright lies were told about us for an excuse to request funds.

First, we are shocked and disgusted with the outright lies these people are making. It is obvious that we need to spend MORE time getting to know our clients as with this couple we most likely would have told them that we were unable to shoot their big day and send them on their way.

Rather than continue with a letter that reflects our sincere disappointment in their behavior, we will address their falsehoods numerically.

1. We told them we were not driving two cars and that once we were done shooting the guys (they get ready faster). Then we would procede to the girls. Hence, lie number1.

2. We arrived at the boys location at 1:45 pm. George and all the boys were already gone and we proceded to the girls. Our cameras give a lot of information regarding the photos and also include the time each picture was shot. The first picture that was shot at the girls location was at 2:45 pm. Lie number 2.

3. As the bride was pregnant and was under enough stress, she had given us a shot list of the shots and secondary family shots she wanted. This was the list we were reading. Lie number 3.

4. Lie number 4 was the after ceremony shots took only 55 minutes. Ask how we know this? We are constantly trying to improve our time and this large group and extended family only took 55 minutes. So many lies I almost lost count. Lie # 4.

5. Lie number 5 is we always ask if we can eat due to the fact not only is it a long day…but also because my wife is a diabetic and has to eat or become seriously ill. They, at our contract signing agreed totally and said feel free to indulge in dinner. Any photographer who shoots weddings will attest to the fact that the ONLY time to eat is when everyone else does. We always ask politely as to whether we may cut in line or not. We never had a problem in our 20 plus years of shooting weddings.

6. Our next lie brings up the part about drinking. Lots of photographers have one or two drinks at a wedding reception. The truth is with my wife being a diabetic, she obviously doesn’t drink. I don’t drink either as I take medication for a back problem and cannot combine the two. I believe this is number 6 on the LIEometer.

7. The evening of the rehearsal Leslie had become ill due to a complication with her diabetes. Due to the potential seriousness of this disease obviously I could not go to the rehearsal and leave her unattended. This illness was caused by a change in the brand of insulin which was never a factor before.

8. The photo choices did take a long time and they stated on the phone that the photos were soo good that it war hard to choose. Additionally, they never gave us ANY indication that we could not create the album with artistic merit. I think we added 6 or 7 photos only to improve the appearance of the album. None of her photo choices were left out. Also, we don’t write extremely rude emails to our clients no matter how they act.

9. We always respond to our clients and as we are available as late as 11pm sometimes it is easier for us to email. Other times we are with other clients and a phone call would not be appropriate to the clients we are with. Funny that they were able to choose 100 photographs from ALL the bad photos. Given we shot around 350 after our editing/critiquing was done.

10. As was explained at the initial meeting and again at the contract signing, the rehearsal we were to do free as they were wining about the package they chose containing a bridal portrait shoot they would not be able to do. Her dress was being altered to accomidate her BABY BUMP and they weren’t ready in time to do a bridal portrait. The best part of this whole affair and what gave us the biggest laugh was they had chosen the picture in her list of the matron which showed the shoulder and strap portion of her slip. We were shooting from behind the matron to capture the face of the little flower girl the matron was applying make up to/on.

Again I must say it is customers like these that make us rethink our career choice and we probably would experience less stress defusing nuclear bombs.

Also, just for the record, after exhausting every effort trying to satisfy George (family portrait shoots, etc.), I simply told him to do what he felt right. No mention of a lawyer.

The best part of this rebuttal, is the clear judgemental, and in this response, discriminitory nature of Leslie and/or Doug and their misguided belief that they are correct in their assumptions. Typically when one goes into such a detailed response to a complaint, they begin trying to convince, not convey, and it becomes clear they are grasping at straws. There are so many things incorrect with the numbered "response, " it would take me more time than i care to spend on them to respond. The information in our reviews is correct, which sites a clear breach of contract for not showing up at the rehearsal dinner and not calling. They were difficult to work with, they made up more and more stories as time went on, and I hope no bride or groom EVER has to deal with what we went through. I continue to warn people about the experiences we have in hopes that they will change their ways. In reading reviews posted since we posted ours, it is clear that change has not begun. I pray for them and have forgiven them for all the stress they put me and my family through, but I will never forget. - Krystal V.

Not going back and forth with you you already won. You got over paid and we got crappy pictures!! Since your explaining things can you explain why over half of our wedding reception isnt recorded? One of the key parts of a wedding is the cake cutting and that definitely wasnt on there. What about editing why is there a white van in so many pictures? He said that he has never shot anyone in their panties but I definitely have the picture with my moms boob hanging out. Accidents do happen but that shouldn't be put in a wedding book. Its very obvious what the problem was with our wedding it was a BLACK guy marrying a blonde WHITE girl!! Since that is how we are described in your rebuttal Didn't think it mattered what color the people are that YOUR WORKING for your suppose to give them your best work. Our wedding was over 40000 dollars did everything go as expected no but we never even asked them for a refund. Only refund that was asked for was when we were suppose to get a stretched escalade limo and received a party bus. We never asked you for a refund you can't refund memories!!! Krystal I think what you had to say was well stated and true!!
