Looking for a job, I did not know that there was a scam even though I did research on this company. I found a few red flags but I thought I could help "catch" them... Ya not right... Duh. I did find a few jobs that was listed on Craigs list that I fit perfectly in hopes that I could find a job. I was not looking for a work at home job but need to find a job due to school loans coming due.
The emails start every day having you set up a yahoo IM accound and add thier names Swgget Davis and Queen Sylvester. Long story short I was to set up a Mini office. I was to recieve a "check" and send go to any software store to buy software and hardware if needed. Then when you recieve the check the story changes to Western Union the money to a vendor. I am sure you are all thinking duh, however I called the bank from the 1800 number off the internet where the check was written from. I talk the checker to check to make sure this "check" had the money in the account and that the account was good. I was told it was real. I put the "check" in my account and waited, I went 3 days later to my bank and asked if the money was in my account. The teller said yes. Then next day I went back to my bank and took out $2500 cash and Western Unioned the money to Vickie Pearson in Brooken NY. Now this person has to be real to pick up the money because she needed an ID to pick it up. Why they can not chatch these people that take money from the average person is beyond me.
The "check" was returned to my bank stamped Frozen/ Blocked, you would think they could also get the person that opened this account..
I did turn to craig's list in hopes they will flag all listings from these people but I am sure they are already gone do to internet you can do and be anyone. :(
See if I try to do anything like this again. Learned my lesson. |

| This company is now using oDesk to try and scam freelancers. They ask to interview on yahoo IM then want you to buy software from an approved vendor. They ask who your bank is in the interview!!! SCAM - interviewer name used was Stacy Bryan. |

| I was hired too on oDesk. But I stopped contacting the Hiring Manager after reading these scam reports. My interviewer was Mr. Bonds Peeker. |

| Thanks for posting this! I was told I was hired as a mystery shopper and I was to evaluate Wal-Mart and Western Union. I kept thinking this is too easy. I would revieve 300 for doing the job and get an extra 50 to spend at walmart as I pleased, then I was to take the money to western union evaluate them and sen the rest to the next "mystery shopper" that lay in waiting...it's bad enough people ate having a hard time trying to find a job and these fuckers go and not only dick you around but also rip you off!! |
