Globe Moving and Storage Shady business practices Garden City, Kansas

After checking out several moving companies to make sure they were good companies to deal with, we decided on Glove Moving and Storage for our move from Colorado to Florida in June 2011. They were listed, at the time, with the BBB as a good company and we found no complaints on them. The customer service personnel were good at calling us back and answering our questions. We thought...great!! This is going to be smooth sailing. Boy were we wrong!!! The packing for the move started out very well. Those individuals were polite and took care with our items...reassuring us that our items would be in good hands. Our large projection tv was packed (we paid the extra cost for this) as fragile and we were told nothing would be placed on top of it during the move. We left for the cross country drive having a good feeling about the move. Unfortunately, that good feeling came crashing to an end when we arrived in Florida. After being told they would deliver our items at 9 am on the agreed upon date..we headed over to our new place to wait. And wait, and wait. We tried to call to see where the truck was and what was going on...no luck. Around 9 pm that day, we received a call from the driver saying that they were now coming to our new place to deliver the items. Since our lamps were in the truck and it was dark out, we told the driver that we had no lighting for them to set up our furniture and to deliver the items. He told us "No problem, we have work lamps we can use"..so we waited for them to arrive. The moving truck pulled in at 10pm that night. Our items so carefully packed at the start of the move, were smashed together in the back of this truck. (No logos on the truck identifying them as being Globe Moving and Storage were noted) The driver came in to talk to my husband offering no explanations or apologies about the delay, collected the balance due and we didn't see him again till the very end prior to their leaving. The truck doors opened and we noticed that the cardboard boxes were smashed up and even the plastic totes were smashed in and dented!!!!!!! How stuff was packed in Colorado was a far cry from how it arrived to us. Our tv..remember we paid extra for the packing of it...was on the bottom under boxes. So nice since we were reassured that since we paid extra, nothing was going to be placed on top of it. At that point, I was in tears because our stuff just looked trashed!!! As they brought items in, we noted the damaged items and told the movers about it. File a claim is what were told..no apologies or anything. While unloading we noticed a box and a gas tank for a grill was brought in with our stuff that wasn't ours. When we told them that wasn't our items, we were told.."Do you want them?? If not we are just going to throw them away". Unbelievable!!!!! When all was unpacked from the truck, we noticed that the queen mattress and box springs as well as little computer desk were missing. (Funny thing about the queen set was that it was wrapped together with a twin mattress set at the beginning of the move. The twin set arrived...no clue what happened to the queen set!!). The driver..remember him??..came into the apartment and was told about the missing items. During this time, the one mover was setting up the tv stand and was unwrapping glass shelves..which clearly were marked fragile. He ended up dropping 4 little curio cabinet shelves and they shattered on the floor. This was witnessed not only by me, but also by my husband, the driver and the mover unpacking. Again..no apologies..told to list them on the claim. The driver and movers walked out to the truck..not saying a word to myself or my husband. We thought they were coming back. Wrong!! They all got into the truck and left!!!!!!! The next day, we called the dispatch number to find out what happened to our lost items. For several days, we were told they would look for them when they got to the warehouse and call us back. No call backs and half the time when I called...no answer. I finally reached someone and asked about our items and of course, they had no answer for me. File a claim I was told. I was also told by the dispatcher during one call "Good luck getting money out of us". After trying several numbers to reach someone at Globe to help me settle things, I never got calls returned despite messages left. I even called the number listed on the stickers on our items and that company had never heard of Globe at all and didn't use them to move anyone. We followed their protocol and filed a claim with the company they use for claims CSI. We documented the damaged and missing items and provided photos also. One 10-14-11 we received a letter from CSI saying that Globe doesn't authorize them to act on this claim and request we contact them directly at 551-574-2397. When I made that call...i left several messages and never got a return call. I finally reached someone, only to have them ask how I got this number (which I told them how) and what did I expect them to do about the claim since he had no knowledge of our missing desk only. After asking for a name several times and getting blown off...I straightened him out and explained what was damaged and lost so that he understood it was more them a desk. He then looked something up and had our claim in front of him. He said he would have to get back to me and before I could give him my number, he hung up. Three weeks later, I still haven't heard anything despite trying to call back on the same number and leaving messages. While looking for alternate numbers to contact Globe, I came across their profile on the BBB. Now, it appears the BBB has pulled their accreditation from Globe giving them an "F" rating. Of course, the alternate numbers I left messages on and one fellow said it was a private line not affiliated with that company at all. Please...learn from my bad experience and avoid this company at all costs!!!!!! They are rude, unprofessional and very shady in their practices!!!!!! In the other complaint about this company on this site, I see that someone from Globe actually responded. I hope that is the case for me because I will not forget about this claim because it was expensive to the replace items damaged and lost!! We basically got taken to the cleaners by a band of thieves!!!!!!!
