I got conned today. Two handsome, smooth-talking and flirtatious young men came to my door explaining some contest they were in whereby they get to go to Italy if they win. It's selling magazines but it's a charity see, tax deductible (or so I was told). You order magazines that will be sent to one of our troop members. They have great ratings by the BBB I was told. I wrote a couple of checks thinking I was helping these kids, the troops, and getting a tax deduction! After they left I started researching the company, MTS Circulation, and found tons of complaints and reports about them being a scam. I checked the BBB and not only are they not accredited, but the BBB rates them as an "F" -- again tons of unresolved complaints. I called my bank immediately and put a stop payment on the checks. Expensive lesson -- each stop payment cost $30. Be WARNED about earnest looking and slick sounding people coming to your door to sell magazines!!!
