Progressive Insurance
Progressive Insurance Deceptive trade practicing, the ole' bait and switch, on a motor vehicle
25th of Aug, 2011 by User792126
On 8/17/2011 I was involved in a motor vehicular accident. My 2001 Ford 4 door Excursion Limited 7.3 turbo diesel Powerstroke 4 x 4 was deemed an insurance total. I have full coverage thru Progressive Insurance with a $249 deductible. Progressive determined my vehicle actual cash value at nearly $7600. They determined this by finding: three different 2001 Ford Excursion Limited 7.3 turbo diesel two wheel drives for sale, and one 2001 Ford Excursion Limited gas engine 4 x 4 for sale. They totaled all of the vehicles pricing and divided it by four.....getting $7600. Progressive did not write the report to reflect what I actually own. Nor did they try to find four comparable vehicles to re-determine a realistic value for what my vehicle is. When one finds the same vehicle on Auto Trader or Kelly Blue Book, the actual cash value is vastly different than what is reflected on Progressive's "comparable vehicle" report. 7.3 diesels run forever, and have a much higher value than a gas engine, as well, a four wheel drive adds even higher significant value to that vehicle's cash value. You cannot find the same vehicle on Auto Trader for less than $10,000. The lowest value on Kelly Blue Book is $13,475. I've had no success requesting a real comparable vehicle actual cash value report, from Progressive. Neither the Arlington Texas based adjuster, Dylan Whitehead, nor his supervisor, Stephen Baere, will change the report to type in 7.3 turbo diesel and four wheel drive for my 2001 Ford Excursion Limited. When told to submit my documentation to reflect a higher value than Progessive's determination, I spent $63 at FedEx Office faxing nearly $13,000 in receipts spent on the mechanicals over the last two years. Neither Dylan Whitehead, nor Stephen Baere, chose to admit a change in the value determination. I have now had to spend out of pocket money for an independent appraisal, of which Progressive will too, have to hire their own independent appraiser. The appraisal is not reimbursable. All I want is for them to recognize what I paid to insure with my so called "platinum membership" since 2008. A 4 wheel drive, 7.3 turbo diesel, 2001 Ford Excursion Limited. No two wheel drives, and no gas models needed for comparison! I've had to file a complaint with the Texas Department of Insurance, as well as the Better Business Bureau. So basically, if you insure your apples and oranges with Progressive Insurance, and, if and when the event happens that your trusted fruit is squashed flat......reasonably speaking, Progressive will recognize that you really had apple juice and oj, and it really makes no difference the bushel or two you started with.
