I was quite happy with my service Sopris Surfers i.e. Sopris.net until one December two years ago, I needed to contact customer service and there was none. That was highly unusual because they had always been very responsive. I couldn't get on the internet so I found another provider. Then I discovered Sopris had been bought out by Skybeam. When I needed DSL for my job, I decided to try sopris, again, and was taken to the skybeam website. Since I had been a previous customer, there was no hookup charge so I went ahead and subscribed. About a year into my "service" with Skybeam, they started charging me $3 for each statement they were FORCED to mail to me!! I quit Skybeam for a few months but decided to come back since I discovered I can still pay via "snail mail" and look my statement up online so the bozos wouldn't HAVE TO MAIL ME A STATEMENT! They had a special where I could get a free hookup (all the wiring was still in place) and go for internet phone service. Against my intuition, I applied. The service guy who hooked me up provided me with a faulty electrical cord. Once he got it working, he left immediately. Soon I discovered I was being continually cut off from the internet. I was actually able to get hold of a technician in spite of the fact numerous areas in Colorado were blacked out from Ksybeam internet due to problems. The tech was helpful and sent me a new electrical cord and phone box for the internet phone system. Once the setup was in place, I had internet service and telephone service. That lasted almost TWO DAYS. I noticed I wasn't receiving phone calls and when I attempted to make a call .. there was nothing there. I waited 2 more days and still had no phone so I ATTEMPTED to contact the Skybeam technician. I kept getting a message that the tech was busy. Since I was at work after hours and it was a free call, I put it on speaker and left it there for 1 hour and 45 minutes. After still not receiving human contact and getting sick to my stomach of hearing "Your call is important to us" (not to mention the lousy music and advertising) I gave up and went home. I attempted to contact Skybeam NUMEROUS times throughout the following couple of weeks. At one time I actually thought I MIGHT get someone to help. I sent an email with a cc to the FCC stating I had not had phone service for 2 weeks, etc. A woman called me within 20 minutes and told me the tech was swamped but she had personally delivered my information to him and I would be getting a phone call in about 30 minutes. NEVER HAPPENED. I packed up my internet phone equipment, careful to take photos and have witnesses oversee the packaging so Skybeam couldn't blame me for destroying their equipment, etc. I managed to get hold of Qwest beforehand and they agreed to take my service back. (I didn't know they had dropped me until I received a notice. I was thankful to get back on with them!!) Since then, I have not heard ONE WORD from Skybeam. I have the internet service and it is (so far) working fine. They are still billing me for both the internet and the internet telephone "service" but it's under the "special offer" and is actually cheaper than the internet so I am going with that until the offer expires. I could not believe a company which owns and operates an internet service and internet telephone business could get by with NO CUSTOMER SERVICE. NO RESPONSE TO CONSUMER PROBLEMS AT ALL. SKYBEAM DOES NOT CARE WHETHER OR NOT THEIR CUSTOMERS HAVE INTERNET SERVICE OR WORKING INTERNET TELEPHONE SERVICE. I cannot believe a company like that can continue doing business without being fined by the FCC. This is ridiculous and - once upon a time - it would have been unheard of. Yet, they continue to do business and rip people off and THE GOVERNMENT AGENCY DOESN'T CARE!! Interesting.
