Sprint Premium Data Add-On Charge Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

I accidentally got my Sprint phone wet. I called Asurion (equipment protection plan) to get a new phone. They charged my sprint account a $100 deductible which I was fine with. I went online to activate my new phone. I received a message stating that I needed to call customer service to activate my new phone. I was advised by my customer service representative that as of January 2011. There was a premium data service charge. In order to activate my new phone, I would be required to pay a $10 monthly service charge because I was activating a smart phone. My old phone was a smart phone and I was not required to pay the additional charge. However, since I received a new phone. I was required to pay it. I was not advised at any time before activating that I would be required to pay an extra fee.

Sprint has announced that it will be adding a new $10 monthly Premium Data surcharge for users of smartphones from the end of January 2011, affecting all new subscribers. According to the carrier, it is “committed to providing its customers a great wireless experience now and in the future” and so has decided that the best way to do that is charge people more for it.
