TaxACT 2nd Story Software Wiped out my federal return when I clicked

When a notice for an update appeared on April 15, 2011 when I opened TaxACT software on my computer to send off my already completed federal return, I clicked "yes" for the update thinking the feds added a new regulation to filing taxes. After that, I could not find my completed federal return. Emailed tech support for help with this, they send incomplete and sketchy instructions to search for the file. Tried all suggestions and could not locate file. All files were blank 1040 forms attached to TaxACT. Fortunately, the deadline this year extended to April 18. I filed and extension over the phone because I could not use TaxACT for that without a completed return. I suspect this was a ploy to trap last-minute filers into buying the deluxe edition instead of using TaxACT free, as I was doing. In a panic, many would interpret the message that only one free return is available for free version, and that one is the blank return that replaced the one I already filled out months ago and lost when I clicked "yes" to update. If you phone TaxACT for tech support, there is a charge. Email tech support is sketchy and has not worked so far in finding and retrieving my completed federal return. Beware.
