UNIVERSITY OF PHOENIX
University of Phoenix UOP Deceitful, Misleading, Fraudulent & scam! Internet
29th of Aug, 2011 by User875830
This school is very misleading. Initially when I started school being a single mother, I was told that pell grants would take care of my education. This was clearly not the case. I had no other option but to take out student loans (Stafford Loans) in order to continue my education. After about a year and a half I completed my Associate of Arts in Criminal Justice. My Degree only stated that it was an Associate of Arts (not specifying the field). That was only included in my transcripts. I tried to continue with my Bachelor's once I graduated from the Associate's Program. Tuition increased every other semester, & the financial aid counselor always encouraged me to take out extra loans so that I could stay enrolled. One class for the Bachelor's Program cost almost $2000.00. Finally after almost a year of mishaps with my financial aid disbursements with poor instruction I'd had enough. Even after I requested to be withdrawn on 7/23/2011, my financial aid counselor kept calling. He tried to initially encourage me to fill out forms to take out a leave of absence. I explained that I was withdrawing due to financial hardships because I worked only part time and depended on my financial aid to sustain my living expenses. I explained that I would not commit to returning to the University at any time. This school is all about money. Use use your own computer for online courses, no books, so what are all the expenses for? With little, or no instruction, this University does not even recommend you or have any resources to help you find employment. The University claims letters of recommendation for employment & internships are forbidden. After all the money that you spend, the only time someone contacts you is to make sure you are staying enrolled, or if you owe a balance. This University will keep you on the enrolled in order to keep receiving money from loans and grants. After stating that I could not commit to coming back, the University then claims that they would drop me after not attending class for 29 days. This is so they do not have to return funds immediately. The University also over-bills you by billing you for four semesters at a time. How ridiculous is that? This University has already been paid for classes I have yet to attend. This also reduces the amount of money left over to the student for excess. I do not understand why this University is still allowed to operate. What they are doing has to be criminal. I have a 2-year degree with no support from this University after graduating with a 3.5. All the complaints against this University for misappropriation of funds & no accredidations it is still puzzling that they are able to continue their scam! I am all for joining a class-action law suit. I was an outstanding student for two years and I have absolutely nothhing to show for it but a mountain of debt. Shut this school down! Immediately!
