Volkswagen Group of America Defective automobile and major safety issue Herndon, Virginia
3rd of Jul, 2011 by User494550
I have a 2001 VW beetle 1.8 engine. The vehicle was a lemon from the beginning but I did not know about the Lemon law and actually this appears to be a consistent problem with VW's regardless of the model, especially the beetles. The problems are as follows:
The check engine light is always going off. Right now it has been good for about 3 weeks. From the beginning the check engine light went off but I did not care as much, because it cost me aggravation and time with regard to trips but it was fixed for free. When the warranty expired, now it was a monetary issue. To this day, the CEL goes off constantly. For the past year, my car has been shaking when i put the key in the ignition and it needs to be warmed up for about a minute or so until the tachometer is below 1, for the tach to stop shaking. I recently had a fuel injection service and this helped the problem I was having with starting the car. For the past 3 months , in addition to the major shaking when turning the ignition, i had to press heavily on the gas peddle or the car would die in the driveway. After the fuel injection service, now there are no more start up problems and the shaking is done but now it feels like there is this pressure and its going to burst. My car is also stalling at stop lights or whenever I come to an abrupt stop. It has stopped once on the highway after the fuel injection service and a few times before the fuel injection service. My 02 sensor was recently replaced but this stalling in traffic or on the highway is a major worry and it is very dangerous. There are less than 68000 miles on this car and i do not travel too far with it. Replacement parts have been needed and if its not one thing , it is something else. The electrical system, fuel system or ignition system is incredibly sensitive. a consumer should be able to drive a car and not worry that it will not start with a 2 year old battery that has a 75 month life span or stall or even explode upon putting the key in the ignition. Recalls for the ignition coils, automatic windows, sunroof drain, etc. have been done for this model but nothing for fuel, electrical, and ignition. I will never buy a VW again. I thought I was buying a quality car with a great and really awesome look but functionality and performance counts more than beauty of a car. My car also had problems with a knocking movement while in motion and it continues to have low power while driving even with the 4 new spark plugs, new fuel filter, and fuel injection system. These cars are major safety accidents waiting to happen. Research before buying a car and VW should help consumers and work with them. It is not the consumer's fault but rather their misleading and deceptive advertising for a defective product.
